This is a quality boom with a decent extension. However you can quickly reach its maximum load capacity. I wanted to fly 30 inch by 60 inch soft box with an Alien Bee flash installed over a model. This boom would give me just enough length to keep the stand out of the shot. However I was concerned with how the boom was bowing under the weight as I had reached its maximum load capacity. So instead I replaced it with a traditional C-stand and boom, with a second boom attached to lengthen the boom's reach by about 10 inches (and 4 sand bags securing the stand). But for most lighter and more common uses, the Neewer boom would work.

Could be I'm expecting too much, but the plastic parts look fragile. Good value at the price. If it breaks and expensive equipment bites the dust, I may have a different opinion.

The other five-star reviews are on point. This boom arm is strong and stable, and is a great price compared to the cost of full C stands if you already have high-quality light stands or even an extra tripod and an adapter. The double zipper on the sandbags is clever, but as another reviewer recommended, the best precaution is to fill ziplock bags with sand and then place those bags in the pockets.

Had it installed and balanced quickly. Holds the 660 light with barn doors and direction diffuser with a few metal bar weights no problem. Was able to extend it way out and put the backlight right where it needs the be!

I searched for quite a while before settling on this, when it arrived I’m glad I did. The construction is all metal, despite some reviews claiming the clamps are plastic (perhaps this is an updated design?) and everything feels tight where it should. The stand clamp has an easy to adjust lever for tilting the boom, next to this a turn screw that secures the lower part, the telescopic part is held in place with a simple quick release - it’s strong enough to hold the pole secure without being too stiff to open or close quickly, as and when you have to adjust its length. It’s certainly capable of holding your average 400/600w head with a soft box.At the base end of the arm is the counter weight, it’s hefty (with a handy rubber end so it doesn’t mark the floor if you put it down too quick) but if you need more counter-weight the supplied sand bag helps you add more by way of a clip attached via a threaded screw to the weight. Top tip: put the sand in a plastic bag first then placed in the double zipped pouch, saves a lot of hassle!Overall a good bit of kit that feels sturdy enough to take the abuse of day to day use in its stride

NEEWER has done it again. I've had really great luck with the company over the years and when I needed a weighted boom to handle a few larger camera rigs I looked to them first. This booms spin on weight was enough to handle most of the gear that I have mounted to it so far and although I have the sandbag filled and at the ready, I haven't needed it up to this point.I really like the range on this unit as well, it has allowed me to get some shots that I just could not get prior from different heights and odd angles. It's also my go-to for overhead vertical shots for product training giving me what I consider one of the most important shots while training on different items used in my industry.I am sure that it is a great boom for a light which is what NEEWER originally intended it for and aside from dropping an RGB stick light for a few shots I have used it for everything else. It's great when I have a designed tool that I can turn into a Swiss Army Knife.DKH

Edit: I connected the end of the arm and put it into a vice and pulled the other part and was able to get the arm out. Now it’s slide smoothly and does not get stuck. I recognize that this is just an usual situation and doesn’t really speak to the quality of the product which is excellent.I cannot get the telescoping arm to extend. I’m taking off the lock and I still cannot pull the arm out. I’ve tried just about everything. There’s no way to open the back to push it out through the other side either. Otherwise this would be a five-star item it is completely well-built and solid. Almost everything is steel and high-quality aluminum. Possibly a zinc alloy . I’m not sure if I just got a bad one because it seems like everyone else didn’t encounter this issue. I will message Customer Service and see what’s happening and I will keep this review updated.Even the collar that connects to the light stand is made of metal which is good because this thing is heavy. It has a 3.75 pound counterweight on the end and an additional sandbag holder. This will let you connect a very substantial light on the other end. I would definitely make sure not to use a regular light stand with this. I would only use a stainless steel or heavy duty aluminum white stand. This thing is heavy, the whole package weighs more than my 16 foot tripod. And that’s not counting the light on the end.Another example of just being really impressed with Neewers latest line of products.

I needed a boom arm to get an RGB LED light over a fake olive tree that sits in the dark at the back of the set I use to shoot YouTube (and other) videos. Until now I have not been able to get a light close enough to light only the tree and get it to show up green instead of a silhouette. This gets the job done and keeps the light off-camera.It mounts easily to a light stand and moves on a swivel for easy positioning. It has a standard light mount at one end and a 1.5 kg counterweight at the other. The counterweight can be removed, and the included sandbag can be attached with the counterweight on or off the arm.I found it is more than sturdy enough to hold my light. The only improvement I would suggest is that the counterweight be dividable into two pieces as it is a bit too heavy for the light I want to use.I have always been more than satisfied with Neewer equipment and own a number of its products. They make quality products and sell them at affordable prices.
