This WAP product works well and I am pleased that the installation was smooth and error-free. The instructions are clear and correct for stand-alone mode. The web interface is intuitive and provides the basic functions (and more) that I need to boost coverage for my simple smart home network. You only need a Netgear subscription plan if you know WHY you need one. I do not need a subscription, because the WAP plus web interface for configuration and management works perfectly fine with very minimal, custom adjustments.If you are not experienced with home networking, perhaps the one thing to remember is that you need to login to your WAP's web server (after creating a Netgear account, using the address that Netgear provides) to configure the WAP. This is a whole different thing than connecting to your WAP as a client for streaming movies, surfing the internet, checking email, etc. This is easily forgettable "common sense."
