I love these, they stay clipped to my tool pouch good quality and very well machined. Only one issue the screws come lose and if your not paying attention then they will fall off the mounting bracket it comes with.

Standard stair buttons allow you to use a framing square to mark out stair stringers, and they can be used for other marking and measuring tasks too. The trouble is, the standard gauges do not protrude far from the framing square and therefore are subject to measurement errors because the edge of 2x lumber tends to be uneven and poorly machined.These gauges are much longer than standard "buttons" and I've posted a picture for comparison. This allows the gauges to register against the full edge of the lumber rather than just the upper area which is rounded over. This is a huge upgrade over standard buttons and allows for greater accuracy. It also means that the square can be used more effectively in operations involving sliding or holding, since these longer gauges have greater surface area and weight to them.Cleverly, the gauges are provided with a holder and carabiner so that you can remove the gauges from your square for storage. The carabiner can hook on your toolbelt or hang from a spot on your truck or trailer. It's easy to recommend these gauges as an upgrade over standard gauges, offering better accuracy and easier storage when not in use. Well done.

I’ve had to cut stringers a few times, and each time has involved an ordeal reminiscent of the iconic furnace scene in “A Christmas Story” where Ralphie regales us all with the cantankerous exploits of his old man and words that shouldn’t be spoken. I recently used this product to cut stringers for a remodel on a basement staircase and while there was still some aggravation, they certainly helped make sure the markings were uniform. I thought the product was a bit over-priced given the function and inconsistent use, but it’s well manufactured and has a quality feel so I can’t complain too much. The included storage sheet and carabineer are nice for keeping things organized and the length aligns well to use on various sizes of lumber, a significant upgrade from more conventional square buttons.

I got this pair of Tall Stair Gauges not to build stairs, but for measuring and cutting. I use it to square my saw table when the conventional method isn't working. I will also be using it to guide my sabre saw for cutting wood. The build quality could be better, but if you are concerned only about the accuracy, don't mind that it will mark your carpenter square, and that the inner padding need to be reposition now and then, then you'll do just fine with this set.

These work very well for framing or just accurate line drawing even used on a saw guide. They screw on well though saw vibration can loosen them though a pencil will not. Biggest key is always to find these and the square or yardstick at the same time. I finally drilled a hole in my large square and put the carabiner in it so at least these two items are always together and large enough to find easily.
