Excellent high quality unit. The auto focus does has some issues when shooting fast moving subjects. Or did. The firmware update corrected these issues. Many people dislike having only one card slot. However, if you buy a high quality card, the chance of failure is virtually nonexistent. Best part is that the Z7 is very affordable when compared to the z8 or z9. Not to mention older f mount Nikon lenses are for sale everywhere and cheap. A 15 dollar adaptor will do the trick. It will plenty: HDR images, multi-exposures, bracketing, wi fi and bluetooth connectivity, and a thousand more features. As for video, 4k high def , 30 fps and 100 bit rate. Excellent quality, but it won't professional 60fps. Excellent purchase. No real complaints.

This is basically what we’ve been hoping for, a d850 but smaller. It has a lot more potential for recording video than any previous Nikon. I’m still adjusting to it, but here are some quick thoughts for new owners and people on the fence:- the EVF takes some time to get used to. In some ways it’s better, but it gives an electrified video look to whatever you’re pointing at, so it’s hard to picture the resulting picture might come out looking good.- The lens cap feels oddly cheap and is easy to knock off.- The front custom buttons are not hard to reach, but are softer to the touch than I expected.- The front dial is just low enough that it’s a bit awkward to reach with your pointer finger. If they’d angled it slightly up the ergonomics would have been better.- The buttons are all very customizable.- I was desperate to get focus peaking at 4K (yay!) but the face follow focus feature is good enough that now I probably won’t need it as much. Still getting used to how it works, it’s not quite as intuitive as some demo videos show.- The electronic video stabilization feature is worthless, it destroys small stretches of video by doing weird corner pin transforms and smearing the image.- As mentioned elsewhere, the white balance seems less than optimal, hopefully they will improve this with software updates.Aside from that mostly nit picky list, I’d say this is a really solid camera and much more convenient than the boat I’m replacing.EDIT: In the last week (within a couple months of purchase), the eye sensor seems to have stopped working consistently, so the camera will not always switch between EVF and back monitor, unless I pull it far away from my body (take the strap off my neck). And even then I sometimes fight with it. Kind of a big deal!I also have really been bothered by how the EVF blacks out as you shoot. On the D850 I can shoot to my heart's content and only briefly lose my image as the mirror flips. On the Z7 it's extremely hard to track motion because as soon as I start shooting, I'm basically mostly seeing black and guessing at where my subject will go next.Deducting a star for these major issues.

Awesome camera !! The images you get out of these camera are really pro-grade.The COLORS are so much better !! Auto-focus works perfectly with the lenses I have.24-70 f4 S, 50mm f1.8, 35mm f1.8. Snapbrige mobile app works seamlessly. The camera overall is very well made. This is very well suited for the long-exposure night time photographs. The RAW files you get out of this camera is so sharp and chessy !! The battery power is good for ~700 stills. I was quite critical when I bought this camera but as I get out there and shoot. This camera changes me with every shot I took. I will not let it go. It is truly a wonderful camera. Please go to a camera store and check the camera yourself and try to look at those files in a bigger monitor!! The Z-mount is so wide. I am convinced you will LOVE THIS CAMERA-Z7 !!

The upside:Think of the Z7 as the new D760. All the sweet handling of a 750 with the output of an 850. And 3 “U” banks!Image quality is as good as or better than the 850.Nikkor F lenses’ AF speed is as fast as the 850 and perhaps a little more accurate. The Sony XQD card gobbles up the 60MB, 14 bit NEFs at a remarkably fast rate. The 24 – 70 lens is super sharp wide open. Belying its lite weight and small size. The FTZ lens adapter works seamlessly with no performance penalty. With older “D” screw driven AF lenses, in camera VR works great and AE works great (but no AF.)The viewfinder is VERY close to the excellent viewfinders of the 750 and 850 with lots of add-on features. The VR is much better than either the 750 or 850.You can get the full resolution benefits of the sensor, while hand holding the camera. In summary: the Z7 is a small, fast handling camera that turns out remarkable results. The downside:Currently there is only one program that lets you use the Z7’s 14 bit NEFs in Photoshop. That is Nikons new ViewNX-i program. It is as slow as it ever, and only produces very large TIFFs. I’m sure Adobe is working on that problem. There are some Nikkor lenses that, as yet, don’t work with the Z7. For instance the DX 10.5mm.Some third party lenses suffer performance lags. For instance, the Tamron 45mm f1.8 hunts a lot in lower light. The Z7’s very low light (available darkness) AF performance is good, but not as good as the 850’s.The XQD cards are outrageously expensive.Oct. 13, 2018 - Three days ago, Adobe has upgrade their "DNG converter" to work with Z7 NEFs. The upgrade works fine. My workflow is now: Z7 NEF > DNG converter > Bridge > Adobe Camera Raw > Photoshop.

Performs as advertised. Fast, high resolution with excellent detail. Well balanced and fits the hand well, even though it is smaller and lighter than Nikon's DSLRs. Control placement is good (similar to Nikon's DSLR's). Menus are familiar Nikon and quite easy to navigate and use. With the adapter you can use all your old lenses. Auto focus doesn't work well in low light. A little pricey but worth every penny.Update: After a couple months use I have found no problems. Love this camera!
