I have been using the Normcore Portafilter Stuffing Station for a while now, and it has definitely made my espresso routine smoother and more enjoyable. When I first started making espresso at home, I used to tamp my coffee directly on a rubber mat, and I often struggled with consistency. So I decided to try this tamping station to up my game.It is quite well-built and sturdy. The stainless steel frame gives it a premium feel, while the silicone insert holds my portafilter securely in place. I no longer have to worry about it slipping, which has improved my tamping pressure and overall espresso consistency. I primarily use a 51mm portafilter, and it fits snugly, but I like that it also accommodates 54mm portafilters with the removable insert. The station’s compact design also helps keep my coffee setup organized without taking up too much counter space.Cleaning is another plus. The silicone insert comes out easily, making it super simple to wipe down after each use. I love that I don’t have to deal with coffee grounds sticking to the surface like I did with my old tamping mat.The only small drawback is the price. It’s definitely on the higher end for a tamping station, and there are cheaper options available. But given the high-quality materials, thoughtful design, and the improvement it has made in my routine, I still think it’s a great investment.Overall, this tamping station has been a game-changer for my home espresso setup. It has made tamping easier, more precise, and much less messy. If you're a home barista looking to upgrade your workflow and get more consistent espresso shots, this is definitely worth considering.

We got an espresso machine and every time I put coffee in portafiler, it was just on my table. That was uncomfortable. Then my wife suggested we should get a nice holder. I was doubtful cause how would that change anything. But after we got it, pressing coffee was not just easy but pleasant in such a nice device. It eventually brought more joy to my coffee consumption.

As with everything Normcore you can expect that this product is very high quality. The look, feel and finish are all great. The silicone insert has air channels to make it easy to remove and clean. The powder coated metal base has rubber feet to ensure that it won’t move around. The colour between the silicone and base is not an exact 1:1 which should be expected as they are different materials. It’s very hard to tell them apart unless the lighting is right. I’ve added a photo so you can see the contrast.I purchased this as a replacement to the timemore magic cube and much prefer the normcore. Reccommended.

The rubber on this new version doesn't get coffee stuck to it. Stays clean and comes apart if you need to. Perfectly holds my bottomless portafilter and 54mm spouted, but doesn't comfortably fit a cafe 58mm spouted portafilter. Allows for one hand tamping, greatly increasing workflow while you can measure out milk or take an order while tamping.

One thing can be said for certain: The portafilter holder has heft. It's got a great amount of mass in it, when combined with the rubber feet makes for a sturdy and stable foundation when tamping. The silicone cover is easy to keep clean, and provides a nice amount of friction with the portafilter to prevent slipping. Unfortunately, it's that same silicone cover that makes this holder a problem. The silicone is very thick and very bouncy, which means that when tamping, you spend more effort compressing the silicone jacket than you do the coffee puck. It is difficult to achieve consistency with this portafilter holder, because each time you tamp a new shot, you can't be sure you've actually completely tamped the grounds. I have had some shots that were fully-tamped and came out great, while I've had other shots (same beans, same grind setting, same tamper, same machine, same everything) blow through the puck as if it hadn't been tamped fully. When switching back to tamping directly on the countertop, this issue goes away. There's also an issue with the spout cutout, in that it only allows for offset spouts. My single-spout portafilter does not fit, because the spout comes directly off the centerline of the bottom, instead of being offset to the back (some double-spout portas also have their spouts come off the centerline - like one of my old Gaggia portas - so they will not work either). Minor nitpick, since I don't often use the single spout, but it does bear mentioning for those who do.Well-made, has some issues, unfortunately doesn't work for me. Your mileage may vary.

This is a very solid, well-fabricated piece of gear. It's very satisfying to use. And unlike the edge-of-the-counter mats, I can set the portafilter into this, and it stays put till I'm ready to use it.The visual design and materials are very pleasant, and handling the entire unit conveys a sense of solidity and weight. (I do have mine on a silicone bar mat, so I can't vouch for the skid-resistance of the unit if on a bare counter top.)The one flaw in the whole thing is that it is difficult to clean. So far, I've only achieved satisfactory results by disassembling the silicone interior from the metal shell. Due to the otherwise-desirable precise, tight fit of the insert in the shell, this is not as easy as it should be, for a frequently-required process. The net result is that, for day-to-day use, I leave the outer metal shell off and use the (bottomless) silicone insert atop my bar mat. Also not an actually good solution, but easier than separating, washing, drying, and reassembling the tight-fitting metal and silicone pieces several times a week.

This portafilter holder is excellent, and a very welcome alternative to the huge boxes that have many slots for tools. I use it with a 58mm bottomless portafilter and it is very sturdy and makes puck prep a breeze compared to just sitting on the counter. It comes with 2 different inserts to accommodate different sizes of portafilters, and has a slot for spouted portafilters. I like to use the thin insert with my portafilter which makes the entire thing a little more level. The bottom has a rubber ring all the way around which keeps it from sliding around. Build quality, as with all Normcore products, is very good!Worth noting - it seems that the product has changed a bit since the product images were taken for the black variant (the pictures for the white variant are correct). There is no longer a second 'layer' on the inside, now it is just a single flat area. I never used the old version of this so I can't speak from experience, but more surface area contact on the new version seems like a good improvement.

Wanted something that I could tamp well on and fit my double spouted Solis 54mm portafilter, plus easy to maintain cleanliness. This is a solid portafilter stand which sits well on their tamping mat which I got as well. The whole inner silicon block can be taken out to clean the base, which I was very pleased about. Portafilter sits very well on the stand without needing to hold onto the handle. I could wdt and tamp easily without the portafilter moving about. Great addition to my tamping station and saves me time during my morning workflow.
