This crock works great, and I was able to make a wonderful batch of sauerkraut in it. I will say that I think this crock is not actually a gallon crock, but more like half to 2/3 of a gallon. It is a fair amount smaller than a gallon of milk, so there is no way it will hold a gallons worth of vegetables. I wasn't sure how much cabbage would fit in it, as I had never made sauerkraut before, but 1 head filled it up only about half or a little over half way. I would have done 2 cabbages if I had known how much it would shrink down. It is easy to clean, and I am glad that it comes with the weights and the wooden tool to mash the cabbage down. I do think it is a good value and I would get it again, just know that it is definitely not a 1 gallon crock.

When compared to a gallon Ball canning jar the crock is definitely not a gallon. And, the weights are too large to fit into the opening of the crock. I'm very disappointed. We do not have a cell phone to "capture" an on-line image...so I'm screwed about returning the crock. Lesson learned to buying on-line.

I bought this to make all sorts of fermented foods and I’m really happy with the quality of the items they’re all made of good quality and I would highly recommend it to family and friends. If they make a 1 gallon one I’m going to purchase one in the future.

I've already made sauerkraut two small heads 6 days later a sour as I wanted it very good I like the water seal on the lid work very good
