This is a decent enough set of NPT thread chasers to help you clean out boogered up threads in plumbing or anything else with NPT threads that may need a flat tap. They come with a rather nice case although it has open cell foam in it which will cause them to rust eventually so be sure to keep them oiled every so often. I'm not sure I'd try cutting new threads with them but I also will never have that opportunity as I don't do plumbing work of that magnitude. The chasers are of hardened steel and the ends have a square to use with a tap handle or a wrench or need be.

I always wonder if things made in China are made with real steel or just something that looks like metal but falls apart when you actually use them. I'm not sure if this set is for the guy who will be using them day to day. But for a guy like me (who avoids plumbing) they are a nice set that's in a case. So i can store it until I need them and easily find them.like others the taps didn't stay in their assigned spot during shipping. But I didn't see any damage. I'm sure they will be fine in my basement though. The largest tap is actually very large. That makes the case feel pretty heavy.I used the 1" tap to remove some rust from an elbow and it cleaned it up perfectly. I think trying to tap new threads in steel would be a challenge, not just for the taps but for me as well. But it's rare that I actually have to tap pipe threads. Normally it's just chasing them and this set appears to be up for the task.

This is a set of 6 different taps for NPT pipes. It has taps for the most common pipes, at least that I'm aware of. They come in a hard plastic case that has a soft foam so each tap fits in an individual spot. One thing I did notice and I'm not sure if it comes through in the picture very well, but the splines that create the threads seem to be dinged up considerably. I will mention that when I received this set and opened the case that all of the taps were not in their spots in the foam so it's possible that they got dinged up during transportation. I haven't had a problem using them so far but it may be something you want to keep in mind when purchasing this set.

This YAMESH NPT tap set incorporates some hefty-looking taps in every size that you will likely encounter in day-to-day plumbing and pipe maintenance tasks. Shipped in a foam-fitted storage box that looks like it will last forever, the box features a real lid hinge instead of the typical flex plastic that breaks in a few uses. This means the open lid will sit flat on the bench rather than constantly trying to flop closed while you are selecting a tap.Each NPT tap is clearly labeled with its size and thread pitch and looks to be cleanly threaded and fitted with a typical square end for a tap wrench, box wrench, or 4- or 8-sided square socket.I tried a few of the sizes in their respective fittings and they thread in smoothly and cleanly, suggesting that these taps will be excellent for chasing and repairing damaged threads, although I see no reason that they could not serve to cut tapered pipe threads into raw materials.Some NPT taps have reduced shank diameters that make me suspect of their strength to cut new threads, but these taps have the largest possible bodies for each respective size which increases my confidence that they will stand up to most threading tasks.I cannot, at this time, attest to their hardness and wear resistance, but I believe that they will serve well enough that, if their cutters become dull, they can be economically replaced since they are so reasonably priced.Using the edge of a file dragged along the shank as a crude “hardness test” I find these taps hard enough to keep the file from digging in, indicating that they are quite reasonably tough and not just soft or mild steel, so they should be durable.

This is a useful set of 6 sizes of NPT taps to clean up and repair existing NPT threads. They are not suitable to cut new threads, especially in steel.The set is advertised as being made from Carbon Steel. I did take a center punch and hammer to one of the taps. And I can confirm that they are hard - it flattened the point of my center punch!They come in a well-made and sturdy case that will last a long time.I use them to repair and clean out corrosion in threads on irrigation pipes and fittings which are made from bronze or PVC.They should last me a long time, and they work well for me.Review for: NPT Pipe Tap Set 6-Piece NPT Pipe Tap Repair Kit, Carbon Steel, Essential Sizes 1/8" to 1" for Thread Maintenance
