Oatey? Sure-Vent? 20 DFU Capacity Air Admittance Valve's one-way valve allows air to enter the plumbing drainage system when negative pressures develop in the piping system. The purpose of an Air Admittance Valve is to provide a method of allowing air to enter the plumbing drainage system without the use of a vent extended to open air and to prevent sewer gases from escaping into a building. An Air Admittance Valve is a one way valve designed to allow air to enter the plumbing drainage system when negative pressures develop in the piping system. The device shall close by gravity and seal the vent terminal at zero differential pressure (no flow conditions) and under positive internal pressures.

Provides adequate ventilation for a toilet. No air leakage into the room. It does what it's supposed to do and provides much more air flow than the cheaper black air admittance valves.

Ordered as a replacement for the same exact vent and it fits and installs easily without the adapter since we already had one in use before purchasing this item. I took off 1 star based on the product name since it was not 100% clear if this vent was the same model we already had. For anyone who just needs a replacement like I did the actual diameter of the threads that connect to an existing pipe adapter is 2-1/4 inches.

I did a remodel in my bathroom which did have trouble with draining and gurgling in the bathtub when flushing the toilet. With all the walls demoed and the vent piping exposed and finding I had a very tight space in the sink cabinet to correctly vent the sink drain, I decided to research how it should be vented. I found that this device could be used in places that the fixture needs a vent and for space or no vent pipe to roof is available. I decided to install this device and reading instructions found it was capable of providing large amounts of air to plumbing drains and approved by code. This device is all automatic and seals itself when the demand for air is not present and prevents sewer gas from entering the area. When I was able to actually test the device, I was amazed at how fast the fixtures drained. The sink drained very fast almost like the water was sucked down the drain. I then used this same device in the basement bathroom that uses a sewage pump to drain the fixtures. The problem was how do I put in a needed vent for the fixtures that would allow them to drain properly. I then installed this device in the small sink cabinet. When I tried all the fixtures they drain excellent ant I can even hear the seal of the device close slightly. Now this bathroom works great without very expensive routing of a vent pipe to the roof area, which would require snaking the pipe up three floors in existing walls to the roof.

Ordered two, just in case one died for some reason... well a month later - one died. Looks like it should function still, but it just doesn't breathe in anymore. Not taking it apart to find out why - I just won't buy any more.Luckily I found another one way vent at a local hardware store, so if my second one stops working i'll just switch to that one.

This AAV just flat out works. We had a drain vent issue after a remodel and every time the toilet flushed, the P trap would get cleared out on another fixture. I added various AAVs around the house and these things elevated the problem. Make sure you check out the Oatey website to know how many DFUs you will need from your AAV. (it is OK to have more than you need).Great product for the money and hard to find at the local store!

I'm no plumber, but I play one around my house. So when my sink started gurgling and slurping and making strange noises, especially when I flushed the toilet, I started looking things up online. It turned out that I installed the sink without adequate air venting. Doh! Well, a few minutes with the PVC saw and that amazing, sniffy solvent and the problem was solved. I'm pretty much sold of AAVs like this one for venting in tight spaces.This Oatey AAV is great because it works, but also because it'll take two sized of PVC pipe -- just flip around the adapter. I went with the 2" for better flow.UPDATE: Since first publishing this review, I've now installed three more of these on various sinks. I now swear by these AAV units. Do the PVC pipe work well and you're gonna love these.
