I have tried several filters with no frame (cheaper) and with the frame over the years. In my opinion, the frame is the way to go. Yes, the frameless filters do the job and are cheaper. Never-the-less, the filter with a frame is more sturdy and easier to install. It holds the filter together and does not crumble around the edges. This one is also an OEM evaporator pad made by General Aire. Top-notch!
