This is the first time I have seen a suitable gerbil enclosure sold with the base and the topper all in one product. The large lower tank provides plenty of space for my gerbil to tunnel through her bedding. The topper provides a firm surface for me to place her food bowl and toys and a good place to attach her water bottle.The bottom section is about 20 gallons, the perfect size for a gerbil. The topper is a tad bit smaller than that, but still plenty of space for her to explore and climb. She figured out the ramps immediately and has been up and down them all morning.The materials and design are excellent. The glass and metal are gerbil-proof. She hasn't been able to chew her way out. I love that the tank is assembled with sturdy metal screws. Even better, a little screwdriver was included for easy assembly. The topper latches on tightly to prevent escapes.Assembly was easy with the video guidance and written instructions. The included grippy gloves were a welcome surprise that made it easy to keep hold of the glass panes. I had the whole thing assembled within the hour even though I'm not much good with tools. If I can assemble this thing, just about anyone can.

So, first of all, glass was cracked in a corner. Not bad enough to return because this isn't an aquarium, but still sad. Second, the plastic liner at the bottom was broken. Again, not enough to return, but I'm taking stars off for poor quality. Third, putting it together and a piece of plastic snapped - cheap plastic, clearly.Now, for the actual design - this set up is clearly perfect for gerbils as it allows you to fill the required 8in of filling at the bottom for all the digging. The bad thing is - it's extremely difficult to then retrieve the gerbils. You have to remove the stairs, remove the topper, slide out the topper floor then get them.So, I would suggest that there are easier ways to get to the bottom of the cage, just like the top.

I received a used wheel with traces of wood chips. Most importantly the item was not the wheel in the picture by any means! It was a weak plastic material with absolutely no way for syrian hamsters to get inside. The dimensions were much different (the item was smaller). The rotation of the wheel was not smooth.Total waste of time! Returned.

I searched for several weeks to find a cage that had all the qualifications I needed based on the research I did on caring for gerbils properly. If you are looking for good gerbil info, I highly recommend any of the websites from the UK such as the Royal Society for animals or something like that. Basically, I found out that folks in the UK really have a better understanding of gerbil needs than we do here in the US. A gerbil’s needs are much different than that of hamsters. Gerbils need 8-11” deep of bedding and THEN a separate area for their food, wheel, water bottles, toys, hideaway hut, etc. This was the ONLY cage I could find, besides one in Germany which would not ship to the US, that had 11” for bedding followed by not one but two levels to fit all their gear. This is the only cage I would even remotely consider purchasing. It’s been 6 weeks and the cage is terrific. Absolutely no complaints. Other customers mentioned the flimsy piece of plastic sheet for the bottom which, like them, I threw away immediately. Honestly, you do not need it and it’s safer for the gerbils without it. Besides that anomaly, the whole thing is very well thought out, including coming with these cloth gloves to protect the glass while assembling and this neat little screw driver thing that was really different than any other screw driver I’ve seen in the US. I didn’t have the problem that the one user had with the gap between panels but I did take some metal wire and better affix the third level to the side of the cage juuuuust in case. Probably not necessary but it makes me feel better and took five minutes.Please get this cage, your gerbils will be happy and healthy and you will love watching the crazy tunnels they build.

Very happy with this gerbil home gerbils and hamster cages are NOT always interchangeable. This one is perfect for gerbils and finally large enough. The price is a bit hefty but I’m very happy with the environment for our little critters. Now they have plenty of room and they’re not living on top of each other.I would like the upper opening to have a have a handle to make it a little easier to open. But it is very secure.
