EN-47971 Oil Pressure Gauge Preluber Adapter is a tool designed for use with Generation IV and V V8 engines. If you're working on a Generation 3 engine, you'll need J-42907 instead.
The small-block V8 engines require a unique oil filter for their oiling system, and the oil pressure sending unit is not easily accessible. EN-47971 replaces the spin-on oil filter, allowing for the attachment of the J-21867 or J-21867-A oil pressure gauge for engine oil system diagnosis.
Additionally, the J-45299 Engine Pre-luber can also be attached to pre-lubricate the engine prior to starting a replacement engine.

The adapter is decent, but for a couple of things. There is no size information in the description, specifically, the diameter of the seal, and the diameter of the hole where it threads onto the oil filter spigot. The Amazon application "guide" said this would fit the vehicle I was on (2006 Chevrolet C1500, 4.8L), but it did not. I failed a second time, as I retried to order this, and got the same thing, but in a different color. In addition, the passage plug on the side of the adapter is not a tapered thread plug and does not effectively seal the passage. Expect leakage, unless you use thread-locker or epoxy to secure the plug. Next, the 1/8"NPT threaded hole for attaching your gauge or pressure switch is poorly threaded; I ended up chasing it with a 1/8"NPT tap, and that allowed my gauge hose fitting to thread in properly. The price is great, but expect to do some work to make it a worthy tool.

I have used this many times when replacing engines. I tapped the bottom hole to accept a fitting from my pressurized oil dispenser. I removed the plug on the side and applied Permatex #80632, reinstalled plug and allowed it to cure properly before use. With my modifications it has performed well when pre-lubing new engines with 2 quarts of new oil at 20-30 PSI. I have found no leakage out of either port (I also dropped it on the concrete accidentally) and I expect this to withstand years professional use, if taken care of properly.

This is used to check oil pressure at the filter for testing the check valve built into the oil pan,with this I felt confident in telling the customer the pan needed replaced to take care of his oil pressure warning message problem

The side plug was taped for a straight M12 so there was no way it would seal. I had to tap it for a 1/4 NPT and get a NPT plug. Also the thread for the gauge port would not fit any of my adaptors for the oil pressure gauge not sure what thread it was but taped it for 1/8 NPT. The only good thread was the one that screws on the engine.

I work at a Chevrolet dealership, this thing has already paid for itself 10 times over in rapid and easy diagnosis. The oil pressure sensor on most v8's is near the back of the engine up against the bulkhead and under the intake manifold which takes a little bit of time to get to. This takes less than 5 minutes to perform a quick check and determines my next course of action for diagnosis.

Overall this product does what it should! Wish the side port came with a plug. Found a plug with the same threads but it would still leak. Ended up putting rtv on the backside to seal it up.
