The OnGuard Brute lock is a really great lock. I was looking for a lock that was diamond rated and the best value. It is heavy duty and sufficiently large to lock my bike (which has 4" tires) to any bike rack. If someone were to try and cut it with an angle grinder, they will have to cut both sides - which will take them double the amount of time. The warranty is nice, but it specifically does not protect against an angle grinder attack so I didn't bother with it as I'm confident that no other attack will be able to foil this lock. It comes with several keys and a code to get a new key if you lose them all. The only downside of this lock is the mounting bracket. I was doing some off-road riding and mine broke. I reached out to OnGuard and they were super fast to respond saying they would replace it. But after thinking about it I decided to not get a replacement because I don't want it to happen again - especially if the lock were to fall off without me realizing it. For now, I have an alternative method for securing the lock to my bike, but I'm hoping they will improve the bracket design so I can get a new one.

After reading about the high rating for this lock i went right out & got 1.. It's heavy, but well worth it for such security. I now have this lock, a kryptonite u bolt lock, a kryptonite chain lock & a Alarm attached to my bike.. My e-bike is awesome, fun & expensive.. Get the best security you can by starting here..

My motorcycle was stolen. This lock didn't put up much of a fight and was cut by a portable grinder.

Great lock, yes it’s very heavy! But you want it to be to make it secure. Price was brilliant compared to other D-Locks too.

The lock is beefy and looks strong. Comes with a mount, which makes it portable. I use it to lock my ebike.

I like it 95% of the year, but when it's below 0 degrees it can get locked up and hard to open

All locks can be cut or picked. Videos showing top locks being picked including this one but this one took a bit of time and most likely will make a lock picker move on to another bike. Some of the budget locks online claim to be pickproof are picked easily on video reviews. It's also important to have the lock side facing the ground at an angle or in a position where you can't move the lock from side to side making it hard to move the lock to feel the sliders, making it difficult to pick the lock. These locks have a Quattro locking mechanism with a crossbar preventing bending or twisting of the lock. Check to make sure that all 4 sides lock and unlock without difficulty. ( photo down below). Mine is working well. Now on to the Shackle which is 16.8 mm of hardened steel TriRadius shackle. Bolt cutters resistant. There's a video of this lock destroying the blades of a hydraulic cutter and barely leaving a mark on the shackle. If you see a video or image of this lock or any top locks cut it would be by a power tool. So common sense locations to lock the bike with pedestrian traffic. Even a battery-powered thief is not going to draw attention with sparks. Overall this is a very solid lock with a 97 security rating. OnGuard has been known to make decent budget locks, this is a step up for them at Kryptonite NY series or Abus top-line league at an affordable price. I have read all the negative reviews on this lock and most are about the lock mount. It's hardened plastic and I haven't tried it yet. I may never put it on as I like keeping my frame light and keep my locks in my backpack if I'm going to lock my bike up somewhere. To me, the mount is not as important as the quality of the lock. But saying that I read reviews that people had no problems with the mount. The second negative thing that I read about that is in every lock's negative review is that the lock gets hard to turn. It's important to keep locks lubricated with Triflow or a 3-1.WD-40 is good for getting rid of debris but use a lubricant right after. You would be surprised how little debris or weather change can make a lock difficult. Everything seemed to work fine on mine testing it out and using it.. I'll use a bit of lock lubricant to keep it working properly. I use this lock to lock the frame, the back tire with a post and with a steel cable looped in locking the front tire and frame. I also use an additional double cable to look front and back. Some might think that's overkill, but the few extra seconds could save me my ride. A thief's enemy is time. They don't want to fiddle around and will move on to an easier target. My bike was top back in its day, now an older bike. But they will go after any bike that is quick to grab for a quick buck. (I just wanted to add that after a few hard rides with the lock in my bag the bracket on the shackle must have moved all so slightly even though it seemed right because it prevented me from having the shackles locked properly. I took the bracket off and it works great. Keep that in mind if you do keep the bracket on for the mount and having problems locking.)

Recently had a bike stolen. Some turd used bolt cutters to cut through a 'name brand' 1/2" flex cable like it was a cheese stick. They left it where the bike used to be secured, the heavy lock still though both end loops, the cable cut clean. The other remaining bike (5x as expensive) was left untouched. Why? It was secured by a heavy duty U-lock (smaller than this one). They did not even try to cut the u-lock. So, I bought a new bike and THIS LOCK.This is beefy, heavy and maybe a bit overkill . . . just what I wanted! High visibility yellow and black, it screams, "move-on to something else." The lock came with several keys, including one that had an L.E.D. flashlight built into it. The instructions recommended using WD-40 or something similar to lube the lock before use. I did so, and any initial grittiness went away, the lock functions smoothly and lock/unlocks with ease. The lock has a covering if sorts to protect the bike paint. It also has a connection for attaching to the bike when the lock is not in use. This attachment seemed a bit wimpy for this substantial lock, so I don't use it. I simply attach it to the rear rack or carry it in a backpack while riding.Recommended. I sleep soundly again.

It's a fantastic lock, among the most secure (along with the Kryptonite NY Lock and the ABUS one) and I like that this one is wider than the others. It's just wide enough to fit across the seat tube and rear wheel of my 90s Schwinn hybrid, leaving plenty of room to lock around a street sign or bike rack. It is also cheaper than the others, and slightly lighter than the Kryptonite one. The frame mount is great and easy to use. It loosens easily, and the screw is exposed, but I prefer a solid mount over the Kryptonite rope one any day. I've never had a problem with it on my bike, through hills, sewer covers, potholes, and the like. It makes noise when you shake it in your hand (see below) but I don't notice it when I'm riding.Negatives: the parts are not very nicely made and you can tell when you use the lock or the key. It says to put some WD-40 in before use. It's not problematic so far, and I don't think it will be, but it's not as nicely made as the Kryptonite. The rubber coating on the outside shows that too. The injection molding is obvious. But these are more aesthetic things, and I knew when I purchased it.Overall, I highly recommend this lock!

People in my community finally figured out how to steal bikes, so I decided to upgrade my lock. This thing is a beast, and if anyone steals my bike now, I guess they deserve it.It looks like a gnarly lock, and it feels like one too - not the lightest thing to carry around. For the most part, I've found it easier to carry it in a bag rather than attach it to my frame and hope it doesn't slide around or scratch my bike. I'm pretty sure that it could be used as a weapon. I feel like I am as safe as my bicycle when I carry this thing. So far, the lock has worked well - unlike some other U-locks I've had, the locking mechanism has stayed pretty dry through foul weather, and it didn't freeze up in below 0F temperatures. It's also large enough that I can lock my frame and front wheel to standard bike racks, and can easily lock the frame to street signs and small trees in less ideal situations. It's also nice that it comes with like five million keys (ok, just five, I think.) I've had problems losing U-lock keys in the past, and it's helpful to have a few backups.

One year review:I live in Eugene, OR. Per capita, bike theft capital of the world. My last bike was stolen, the braided cable lock cut, so I took my time selecting a new lock for my new bike. This one is it.Pro:Beastly. This thing has stood up to multiple theft attempts. Saws have only managed to scratch the rubber finish. The only damage that's managed to stick, is that thieves have been trying to chisel off the case around the locking mechanism, and that has been dented by a couple attempts to pop it off.I have a road bike and this is large enough to lock through a rim and your frame; barely enough to lock through both rims and your frame if you take off the front one.Con:Heavy and bulky. Carry it in a bag as the mounting bracket supplied is a piece of junk (that wore off my finish on my frame). If you don't mind the bulk, this is the best lock for the money I've found. I'll be getting a Brute Mini to double up while I'm downtown.
