This backpack is probably different from what you're used to. It does exactly what it says it will do and it seems to be extremely well made. This is an excellent travel backpack.I was getting ready to travel for about a month. My old backpack is worn out and has too many outside accessible areas where people could easily get into it or steal items out of it. This one is more buttoned up. It did very well on my trip.Pockets/sections: it has 3 main pocket areas and a pockets inside one section, and a smaller pocket on the top which is inside the main section. (Probably not describing this well.) All the areas are easy to access. I hesitate to say the storage is surprisingly large, because 30L is 30L. But it seems to hold a lot of stuff. My favorite things: the straps stow away! This is fantastic. When you get on a plane and want to put this under a seat (ugh - airplane floors are disgusting) or in the overhead you get pack up all the straps. It's a little fiddly to get them in and out, but this is minor. It's about 20 seconds to store them and 5-10 seconds to get them out. This is a HUGE feature for me. You can store the shoulder straps and the waist strap separately, so you don't need to get out both. This is just fantastic. The laptop/document slot at the very back of the backpack is excellent. it securely and safely holds a laptop, note books, or other items in a thin compartment. I could not be happier with this feature. The two larger pockets/sections are nice and can be filled up with whatever you want. I mostly used these for clothes and toiletries. There is a small zippered pocket on top for items commonly needed items. I used this for my passport, toothbrush, and other stuff I needed to access frequently. The zipper has a security loop so that when it's zipped closed the zipper won't accidentally open and it makes it a little more challenging for somebody to get into it. This is a minor but nice feature. Great attention to detail. The clamshell straps across the front of the pack allow you to compress is and save some space. This is especially helpful when it's full of clothes and you're getting on a plane. It seems to do this fine without putting too much pressure on the laptop area. The front is essentially a clamshell with flaps coming around the front and straps to compress the backpack. The only negative is that you need to undo this straps to get into it. I was able to get what I needed from the laptop pocket and the small top pocket without loosening or unclipping the clamshell straps.Note that as you load it up it can get very fat on your back and that you'll be bumping into things and people with it if you're not careful.

You can’t go wrong with this backpack. It’s amazing how much it will hold and how many versatile functions with extra pockets and straps. Within a few uses, it will pay for itself that you didn’t have to check a bag. Especially like how it fits on the back when it’s full the use of the straps makes it so that you don’t even feel the weight.

Took this on a 2 month international trip and could not have been more pleased. It's versatile, easy to pack and organize, several straps for adjusting to perfect fit, very durable and cleans up well. It's heavier than the Marmot pack I replaced and I will now use that one as the daypack for hiking. This one looks more polished and can pass for business travel as well.

I’d had an older version of the porter many years ago and loved it. This one just takes on an already great design and improves on it. Managed to get a 4 day trips worth of cold weather clothes in this bag and easily had it fit in the overhead compartment. Bag is comfortable to wear and has plenty of space for gear.

I bought this backpack for a 2 week backpacking trip through europe- and its price point is well worth it. For starters, the chest straps and the hip straps really help distribute the weight. Furthermore, its clam-shell opening opens like a suitcase, and it allows you to stuff it to the brim. In addition, this backpack has many useful pockets where you can stash away things you need to access such as ur passport, wallet, ect. I was able to stuff over 11 kg ( roughly 22 lbs) in the bag, and walk for couple of hours. One thing that I was amazed is about the durability of the zippers and the cinching belts. There were many times where I could not effectively pack and threw in all my clothes into the bag, zipped it up with no problem and ran to catch the train. I was able to fly on icelandair, and they accepted it as a carry on! Definitely this will be my go to carry on for future trips.

I bought this pack for a multi-week work trip which involved travel to multiple European countries. It fits a pretty good amount of cargo and expands and compacts well. Also, the zippers and the ability to somewhat secure them make me feel pretty good about not being pickpocketed. Having fallen victim to pickpockets before, I really appreciate that there’s essentially no way that someone can open any of the compartments without me noticing. It fits my 16” MacBook Pro pretty well. The protection for laptops seems adequate but is not quite up to par with my Ogio bag that I use daily while commuting to work. The bag is on the bigger side but not ridiculously big. It doesn’t tuck under a plane seat very well but will never be an issue in an overhead compartment. The ability to tuck the straps away and use it as a duffel is nice. I don’t use the waist straps but they are there if that’s your preference. All in all I’m very happy with the purchase. It wasn’t cheap but it’s perfect for my use case: traveling lightly without a checked bag. Also, it doesn’t explicitly mention that you can strap it to a carry on suitcase but I was able to use it as such: upper handle of the suitcase through the handle of my carry on and I use the lower adjustable buckle to secure the lower are of the back to the lower area of the carry on handle.

Excellent compression for carry on size. Strap system reduces the bag which has some great storage organization. Highly recommend.
