The patented OutFox Field Guard is designed to help protect dogs’ eyes, ears, and noses from barbed grass seed penetration. The Field Guard is also used to help prevent scavenging and to help protect from insects. IMPORTANT: The Field Guard is not a muzzle and should never be used to prevent biting. Sizing: It is essential to select the appropriate size Field Guard for your dog. The correct size allows room for the dog to open his mouth and pant, and for air circulation around the face that is necessary for cooling. We strongly recommend measuring your dog's head length for exact sizing before purchasing. Instructions for Measuring: 1. Use a piece of string, then measure against a ruler. 2. Dog should be looking straight ahead. 3. Measure from the base of the skull, to the end of the nose. 4. Do not follow contour of snout. 5. After you have the length, use our sizing guide in the images to determine the right size. Proper Fitting: Properly fitted, there will be a 2-3’’ (or 1.5-2’’ for smaller sizes) space between the tip of the dog’s nose and the front end of the Field Guard. This space is built into each size. A common mistake people make is pulling the Field Guard too far down the neck. Review images to see proper positioning. With the Field Guard positioned correctly, it encloses only the dog’s head and will remain in its proper forward-facing position and move with the dog as he turns his head. The elastic around the opening of the Field Guard should not be tight. It should be the same circumference as the dog’s upper neck, no looser, no tighter. Once adjusted, you will simply stretch the elastic opening to slip the Field Guard on and off. The Velcro straps are designed to secure the Field Guard to the dog’s collar. I was hesitant when I bought this because the first one I got, a different brand was a disaster. Well, this thing arrived. At first my dog does not like it. But after a while he finally gave in and allowed me to put it on him. He loves eating soil that is why the vet told me to get this thing. He still tried even with this thing on but after several days, he no longer digs his snout on soil. Wisest investment. This brand is not cheap but it works. Easy to clean too. Thumbs up. I will buy again.

Revised review: 3 starsAlthough we love the idea of these masks, wer'e having an issue with them staying on. We have lost two so far, lost somewhere in the field with no hope of finding them again. We have Brittanies, and they are in fields, not dense brush, and they still came off. Not sure how to resolve this issue, and not sure if I want to keep buying more of them as they are faily expensive. One vet bill was $250 to removes cheat grass from our dogs ears. Since we’ve used these masks on both our dogs, no cheat grass in their ears! The masks fit well, the dogs can see, breath and drink water easily, and has been a game changer for us! I highly recommend!

Bought this after 2 expensive grass removal surgeries. My husky/heeler doesn't try to take it off but hangs his head low in shame and doesn't really want to walk or play.

My silly mutt has discovered how tasty “death cap” mushrooms are. He nearly died spending 6 days in intensive care. He can never eat another mushroom. These outfox hoods are fantastic to prevent him from eating anything in the woods. He doesn’t mind it whereas he hates a muzzle.

A new neighbor suggested I get this for one of my foxtail-prone dogs, and it’s absolutely amazing. The first time he wore it out, he came back covered in foxtails, but none made it through the hood and didn’t damage the material when I pulled them out. My dog was so comfortable wearing he went directly to his pool to swim and drank right through it. I was hesitant to buy it because (let’s be real lol) it looks like a medieval torture device, but my dog doesn’t mind it at all, and knows once it’s on he gets to go out and have fun. He has full range of motion and no visual obstructions, he might as well just be wearing sunglasses. This hood is a miracle, it’s durable and made of high quality materials, very well-sewn. The fit is perfect, and I think even a larger size would work too since it also straps to his collar. I can’t believe it’s not more well known, it should be kept in stock at all veterinary offices. I’ll be a customer for life!! The expedited shipping was very quick as well, ordered it on Saturday and it was delivered on Monday despite living in the country.

The mask works to keep foxtails out of the face. It has two Velcro tabs on top that attach to the collar but it needs a better design to keep the dog from pulling it off. Maybe 4 tabs - two on top and two underneath. My dog kept slipping the mask off over his head on his free run and the mask would hang off the collar. Easy to put back on until on one run into the trees he returned without it! Velcro came undone. Haven’t found the mask yet. So ordered a new one and will be adding additional tabs.
