I have 6 of these units. My family uses them to store Christmas decorations and out of season sports equipment. Our carpenter/handyman installed them for us without too much trouble. He first attached 6 ft sections of 2x8 lumber to the underside of the truss joists in our garage because the trusses were irregularly spaced. He did this, of course, BEFORE installing the lifting mechanisms to those 2x8s. That was a simple common sense solution to solving a local structural issue. These storage lift platforms have given us no problems. By the way I use one of the lifts to raise/lower and store the hardtop from of a vintage Thunderbird.

The item is a real space saver. Installing alone was a challenge as far as placing the brackets on the ceiling. But the rest of the installation was straight forward.
