It holds pastel beautifully and is a good surface for acrylic also!

What a fantastic support for pastel paintings! The clay surface is smooth & even; the marble dust provides amazing tooth without being overly rough. Pastel dust clings to the surface firmly & cleanly, but one can still blend & otherwise work with the pigments. I wish it were possible to get multiple packs in sizes other than 5X7, but for small, relatively delicate pieces this works brilliantly (in fact, I sent one such painting to a friend who received it today & is utterly smitten with the support).Highly recommended if you're someone who works with pastels. I'll be purchasing this again & again. :)

Great surface for pastel painting! Love the gray color as an underpainting color, too! Great price!

There are good pastel papers, but, if you want to build many layers you will want to use something like PastelMat paper. But if your intent is to mount your work afterward with the best possible support while working, then you would do well to use these panels. They offer the advantage of many layers, smoothness, good support and durable longevity.

I bought this for my husband. He really liked the way the pastels went on and says it's good quality. He bought the smallest one because he wasn't sure if he would like it. Well, he did and said he would buy some of all sizes if the price weren't so high. So, we gave these four stars because of price.
