For anyone just starting out with embroidery, this is a great option! I specifically got this for my daughter that is interested in, and just starting out with embroidery. Let me say it is perfect for this purpose! There are a variety of different design choices for her to do, and everything is explained well. There are even links to videos that help! For a beginner, the ease of use is great, and the quality of all the materials is good too.

When my niece would visit I would try and show her the different styles of stitching and she would help herself to my sewing supplies. As she got older I realized that I myself needed to learn more methods. I got this kit so her and I could learn together and it has been great! It has all the materials you need if you don't own any sewing kits. It has diagrams that help you stay in the lines and keep order to your design. It even gives you a video tutorial that is a great help. My niece and I sat for hours helping each other out and learning new sewing designs. It was fantastic! If you want to broaden your horizons with sewing, I highly suggest this kit. If you want family fun time, I suggest this kit, If you want to learn new sewing techniques in order to help with projects, I HIGHLY suggest this kit!

Straight out of the box you can tell that the materials are a higher quality than one would expect from an inexpensive "learn to.." starter set for any kind of crafting. That being said, there are three things that leave a little to be desired but should in no way be discouraging.Firstly, the scissors are a bit of a joke. It's understandable as good embroidery scissors are a personal item and can be a bit expensive. These are just barely serviceable enough to muddle through until you're certain you're even going to enjoy embroidering. Most people will probably already have some sort of small scissors that will be suitable in the meantime. The same goes for the needles. They're not as sharp as quality embroidery needles should be. They get the job done but do require a bit of extra force to push through the fabric. This in turn pulls the fabric a bit loose from the ring so there's some extra effort to pull it tight more frequently. The final issue is the English translation on some of the processes. They're really not great, but unless your learning style is only in following written instructions there is no problem with this because 1) the pictures were enough to get me through most things and 2) the YouTube videos (QR code link provided) are really, really good. They give you a short and to-the-point clip for each of the stitches individually. No narration with a life history about why this stitch is so meaningful to the presenter because their grandmother used it on their christening gown or having to forward/reverse through a long video to get to the stitch you need. Just a neat and quick demonstration set to a bit of background music. The photo shows how I have managed to get through the first couple of stitches. There are three more printed samplers with more stitches included. Like all things learned, it will take me some time to master them. This package gives a good opportunity to try it out without a large investment and just as importantly, without having to fight with cheap supplies that can frustrate you to the point of giving up.

We are excited to use this kit to learn the embroidery basics, but on opening the box, it smelled very strongly of some chemical... maybe varnish? The fabric is an odd synthetic, which I wasn't expecting either. I don't plan for these to be used for display, only learning, so it's not a huge deal, but also not sure we want to be handling the materials too much.

I originally wanted to learn embroidery, but of course, my adult daughter saw it and swiped it from me. Well, getting her personal review from it, she is enjoying every moment of it. With the stresses of University, she finds this activity very relaxing. My special needs son seems to like this embroidery kit activity too which shocks me.The tools the kit comes with are very easy to manipulate. The embroidery hoop feels nice and sturdy. The floss is thick and strong. The colors are also very pretty. The embroidery fabric feels rough but it's quite strong too.For those mindful of sensory issues, pulling the floss through is a sensory delight for those who are sensitive or desensitized to touch. My daughter isn't sensory but my son is very much so, and he doesn't react like it's nails on a chalkboard. He has Occupational Therapy issues concerning grip, and can't manipulate the needle to put in the floss through the eye, nor initially put the needle through the fabric, so my daughter will do all that for him while he pulls the floss through. He really loves it and it's a great grip exercise for him. He wants to keep going despite his sister's protests lol.All in all, I highly recommend getting MORE than one if you're interested in embroidery, and have kids lurking about at home that enjoys crafts too.I also recommend this to special needs parents who have kids/adult kids that loves craft activities, has little to no gripping issues, and can manipulate a needle. If your child does have OT or Physical Therapy issues concerning grip, the needle and floss will be impossible for them to manipulate, but if you do the craft with them, they'll not only enjoy pulling the floss through, but holding the needle to pull is a fantastic grip exercise.
