I conducted a lot of research including videos of a variety of pistol nightstand or drawer type lockboxes. There are trade offs in all designs, but this product being certified by the State of California and the U.S. Department of Justice was very reassuring. Meant to satisfy most state safety requirements for safe gun storage. It is very well-made and this model is “version 2” which means it has had its locking mechanism reinforced to prevent an easy access by smashing the combination lock with a hammer via the mechanical combination system. Keep in mind, this is not a gun safe in the traditional sense or designed to prevent professional thieves from stealing your pistols or whatever you put into the box. In the first place, while the box is heavy, it’s not that heavy that it can’t be carried off by someone determined to gain access to the box’s contents. Yes, the box is nearly bomb proof, but it is really designed for the purpose of allowing you the pistol owner quick access to the firearm while half asleep and preventing teenagers, young children, or others from “borrowing” or stealing the firearm and doing something stupid or worse. It is also not reliant on batteries or the electrical grid or clean hands or fingers that may not activate a biometric locking mechanism. It’s a brilliantly simple yet effective design that prevents theft and allows quick access.
