I would like to tell you it is Virtual VHF channel. Most HDTV is in the UHF range. 4-1 are actually in the 48 channel range. One of the reasons, as far as I know, there was a big push to digital, so the FCC could auction off the old vhf frequencies for land-mobile service. Let's say you always watched channel 4.1 when it was analog. After it went digital, it was actually moved to channel 48, but to save confusion, when an HDTV receives the signal, the digital information tells it to display the channel as 4.1. This saves the station from having to change its logo and saves the general public the need to figure out where their favorite channels went. Hope this helps
