Not too big, not too heavy. Easy peasy to use. Perfect for an occasional wilderness experience.

There are plenty of cheap, lightweight binoculars out there, and good ones that are pretty bulky, but these are both optically superior and small.

Got these for a trip to Africa. Needed a lightweight pair to keep baggage weight down for internal flights in Africa (20KG limit -- including carry-ons). They were fine, though of course not as nice as full-sized. The main difference with full size is a narrower field of vision. But vision quality is good.

Very happy with compact binocs. They do have a long eye relief that is good w/ glasses, but requires me to hold them a little distant from the eye to get a full field of view. Still pleased. Nice clear image.

This is my third pair of compact travel binoculars in the last 20 tears (my first pair from Pentax) and they are by far the best. Definitely worth the money. The lenses are clear and bright, and the 8x magnification is great. The binoculars easily fit in a coat pocket, but their light weight makes wearing them around your neck for long periods quite comfortable. I purchased these for use in small Zodiac-style inflatable boats, and the waterproof feature was very important. Well constructed item. I hope to have them for a long time!

We purchased two pairs of binoculars for a family trip (Alaska / Denali). This pair ended up being the favorite with my family. It wasn't quite as powerful as the other pair but it was significantly lighter/smaller and ended up being much easier to use - especially in scenarios where you had to respond quickly to spot wildlife. It is true that the heavier pair (10x42) was better able to distinguish details at a distance but I'm not certain the trade-off was worth it because the heavier pair also had its limitations (i.e. "Is that a moose or a caribou?"). In the end I was satisfied with both pairs but I think heavier pairs require some upper arm strength/stamina whereas this pair is easy to use regardless.

Wonderful compact bino at less than $100SGD. The optics are incredible and very sharp for a small compact bino. I have used Stenier, Bushnell before, those heavy duty ones but this is great value for money.

I bought these to use when traveling, either by vehicle or canoe. The optics appear fine, with decent brightness and resolution. They focus well, and easily. I am very happy with the binoculars. There are three issues that keep me from giving 5 stars. One, is the case. It is well made, and of good quality, but it's too small, and it's difficult to get the binoculars in or out. I'm going to use an old case of lesser quality that I had laying around, because I often needs binocs in a hurry, and I can't bother with trying to fiddle with a too tight case. Second is the lens covers for the eye pieces. They are too tight, difficult to remove, and once off, need to go in your pocket. And last, there is no lens cap for the front lenses. It seems to me in this price and quality range, decent lens caps fore and aft should be included. The binoculars themselves? - they're great.

I absolutely loved the previous model, the DCF SW 8x25. I honestly can't see what's been changed or improved in this, nor can I find a description of it in Pentax's documentation. The only difference I notice is that the hinges on the newer model are looser. Because I loved the DCF model so much, because it's compact, robust, cost-effective, waterproof, and with great optics, I bought two of the AD 8x25s as a donation to a project in Nicaragua (the DCF was no longer available, otherwise I would have bought those, as I have field tested a pair of them for 4 years under extreme conditions and they're still almost as good as new). The hinges on the binoculars are loose enough that it makes 1 handed focusing difficult, as the binoculars tend to flop together or apart as you rack the focus knob. As a note, I bought the two pairs of binoculars at different times, so they presumably are not from the same batch. I contacted Pentax about this issue and how to tighten the hinges. They indicated that this may have been a manufacturing flaw, but that it would have to be returned and factory tightened. Fair enough, but I did not have time to do that with my travel plans, and I had to donate them as-is. They still work OK, it's just disappointing that the binocular I thought was completely perfect and indestructable is not reliable enough to be purchased as-is. I'm curious as to whether other users have had this issue, or was I just unlucky? I would still purchase these binos again--I'll give Pentax a second chance, but I will purchase with enough time to allow for a return and repair if the loose hinges are still an issue.
