They're rings. They're rubber. They're not deathly hard to work with, but they're for a horse-sized bit. I got them for a pony-sized bit. They still work! Suppose that's all that matters!

This bit guard is not that stiff or thick so it is easier to place on the bit than some of the others I have tried. it works very well and does not fold in like the really thin ones do.
