The mid pepper grinder is absolutely amazing. The grind is infinitely adjustable. I’ll never use pre-ground pepper again.

Title says it all. 4 starts instead of 5 because the adjustment is too loose so the adjustment tends to change as you use it. Just use a tiny tiny dab of low power locktite to help this.

I finally had to replace my 45-year-old Peugeot mill. This one seems to be just as good as the last...the best pepper mills, period. BTW, the old mill has not gone away. It now mills red pepper flakes and does a very good job of making small red pepper flakes where the big ones wouldn't be right.

I like the grind and the look of this piece. It is easier and more comfortable to grind the pepper by holding the top part like one would a small cup, then turning it, rather than trying to turn it by holding the top part fitted into the palm of your hand, which is how we were grinding pepper and salt with our other mills. In any case, we love this grinder. You must be sure to use the size of peppercorns as recommended by Peugeot, which includes the standard type you can buy at Costco.

I have not purchased the new version yet (I came here to see if I could find one), but I've been using my original Peugeot pepper grinder for 35 years, and I wouldn't trade it! My current grinder still works perfectly, but it looks a little worn and sad now. I thought it might be nice to get a replacement, and one for each of my now-grown kids. While $35.00 might seem expensive, it pays for itself over the decades. A "convenient" pre-loaded, grocery store pepper grinder (McCormick makes them) is somewhere around $5.00 a pop, with only one grind option available, and needs to be replaced when the pepper has been used up.Follow up, January 11, 2013:I ended up buying a grinder for each of my three children, Christmas 2011, and they all love them. Because of some negative reviews, I was very curious to see if there were any differences between the ones I purchased for my kids and my old one. Aside from the fact that my old one looks cosmetically like it's ready for the trash (although it works perfectly) and the new one looks brand new, I did notice that the grinding mechanism on the new one is very tight. This may account for some people's complaints that they're currently having some trouble controlling the grind, but I think that this is something that will work itself out if the grinder is used regularly. Because it's made to last, I'm sure that everything is extra tight when new, so USE it, and use it regularly, and it should begin to loosen up! My son lives locally, so I recently asked him if he's having any problems with his, and he said that he uses it all the time, and it works just great.
