pH Test Strips for Wine Making, Homebrew, & Kombucha

Acidity Test Strip 2.8 to 4.4 pH

Wine pH test strips are used to test the pH of the juice prior to fermentation, but can also be used to test the pH of kombucha tea. To reduce the color effect on the test strip when testing red wine, use activated carbon (like that used in aquarium filters) to help take the color out of the solution sample.

The strip may also be tested for efficacy by dipping it into a solution of one cup of water and one capful of vinegar.

  • DO NOT USE for testing red wine or other solutions with a lot of color pigments present. The color of the wine will cause interference with the test.

Instructions:

  1. Remove one test strip from the vial.
  2. Dip the test pad into the solution being tested for 1-2 seconds.
  3. Remove the test strip and compare against the color chart within 10-15 seconds. Do not let the test pad dry before reading against the color chart.

THIS STRIP IS NOT INTENDED FOR RED WINES. If you would like to test red wines you need to use an activated carbon filter to remove the red pigments.

I was having issues with my home-brew wine seeming to be too acidic. I bought these hoping that I could find out how acidic it really was. They helped a little but it was hard to determine exactly which color the strips were. I ended up buying an electronic meter instead and it's been far more useful and much more accurate than these strips are. If you're really interested in finding detailed pH of your wine (or anything else), I'd suggest skipping the test strips and buying the meter. It wasn't all that expensive and it's well worth the cost of the knowledge you'll gain.

I bought these in September 2021 to test the pH level in my meads. They seemed accurate and consistent when testing with more than one strips per sample, always giving the same results.Lately I've purchased a high quality Apera digital pH meter to test darker meads and did a comparison test against these strips over the same sample. On a traditional mead sample at room temperature, I've used 3 test strips and all returned a level of 3.2. Then, I calibrated the Apera and tested a sample of the same mead at the same temperature to get the exact same result. 3.2.So, I came back to review this because I was quite impressed by the accuracy of these strips against a good digital meter and if you are looking for an affordable way to reliably test a clear liquid, these are very good.

Works great. Has a small part of the pH scale to test. Great!

These PH strips work well and are easy to use. The only problem i found was when using them with a very strongly colored red/purple must the the must color sort of hid the PH strip color making it difficult to determine the actual PH.

Did not work well with red wine which is what I wanted to use it for. Easy to use with white wine.

While I can't verify the accuracy of these strips, I can tell you they work great and are easy to read. Lots of strips for not a lot of cash, good value.

Very useful for determining the acidity of my wine. It made it easy for me to adjust the acidity to my preferred taste.
