I ordered this to use when assembling my 2JZ engine. This set of piston ring compressors allows for a wide range of piston and worked well for my application. I made sure to oil it up well so that the piston slides down through it easily. The quality on this set is similar to what I've used in the past, but the price is very good. You can't go wrong with these. Every engine builder needs a set like this.

Got these because my old piston ring compressor was beat up too bad to use anymore. So I replaced it with these. It was a good choice they function just fine. I like the taller one because it gives you a little more room to do what you need to do to get the piston in properly. I like the ring spreader it worked as well and it was easy to use. Good price for two of them you will not find it cheaper anywhere else. The durability on the other hand well they get beat up and thrown so they do get abused pretty bad. I'll update you on how well this one holds up. I recommend this if you need a new one I would get this.

The pliers had to be adjusted to work well and tend to slip off. Be prepared to adjust them out of the box.

I like this piston ring compressor. It is similar to all the other ones that I have ever seen and used. The two sizes cover most gasoline and diesel applications. The quality is good, it has a nice sturdy ratcheting mechanism. This would probably be best for a home shop, though, not commercial use.

Poor quality, but works. The piston ring pliers are decent, work well and feel pretty smooth. The piston ring compressors for installing pistons are pretty bad. Be careful I cut my hand pretty bad when I released the piston ring compressor without an Allen key like tool in the spot for it. User error on that one, but be careful edges are sharp. If you build lots of engines I would say the pliers are good, but you should invest in a higher quality piston installer that true to the bore size of the piston your installing.

I'm using this tool set to build a 1FZ-FE at the moment, with 100mm pistons. The larger diameter compressor works just fine. The ratchet mechanism is very solid. The only thing I find odd about it is the inclusion of a square drive instead of just using a hex on the ratchet mechanism, but they kind of make up for it by including two square drive wrenches. I also like that they dimpled a few little flares into one end so that it has a kind of perch on the cylinder deck. Overall great little tool, and I'm glad to have it.

I used this kit to install new piston's and rings in a small block Ford I am building. The kit is a good setup for me, the compressor tightened down evenly on the rings and pushed then right into their lands for an easy sliding the piston into the cylinder. I used a good bit of motor oil on both the piston/cylinder and this tool, and found it to work very well. Just a few light taps with my piston hammer and it was in the hole and the rings were in perfect shape. A great kit for the home mechanic!

These are pretty good quality for the price. They fit a wide range of pistons from mowers to big blocks and diesels. They are pretty easy to use. They lock as you tighten them so you don’t need to keep pressure on them when sliding the piston into the bore. Overall, I’m quite happy with them.
