2013 Tacoma Gen 2, Ext Cab - Install notes 1) On the handle mechanism, it insert it into position I had to remove the metal plate that connects to the locking latch, screw the handle into position and then reinstall the plates (don't lose the spring). 2) Wiring - On my vehicle the correct wires to connect to are were near the passanger side kick plate (blue with black stripe and blue with red stripe which is what the instructions call out for my vehicle (I did not see these same wires on the drivers side). 3) Once connected I had to reverse the wiring connect (lock and unlock were reverse upon first install). I did this by switching the connects near the handle inside the tailgate where the wiring is.Working good now!

Wish this came on my truck from the factory! Integrates perfectly and adds security to the tailgate. I purchased to use with a GFC style wedge camper since this allows me to fully lock the camper. Based on how it is wired, this unlocks on the second key press with the passenger door. I like this because I do not unlock the tailgate every single time I unlock my driver's door.

Works as promised, easy install. My only gripe is the lock solenoid is very loud but that's just being picky.

I received a PL8550 which was clearly used. The box was all ripped up, and the kit was missing one of the T-Tap splice connectors. No big deal, I thought. As long as it works, I can just buy another connector from the hardware store. After I spent an hour installing the lock, I tried to program my OEM key and found that the key had already been programmed to someone else's key, so I can't use mine on it! Very disappointed.

First of all this a fantastic product and easy once you figure it out.The wiring is the tricky part, installing the lock is pretty easy. I looked up plenty of videos and that first part wasn’t a problem. Feeding it under my truck had its challenges and I needed a few extra zip ties. Then actually attaching the wires was easy but some videos direct you to the wires inside the dividing panel between the drivers side and the passenger side. While another video directed me to the floor pane closest to the driver side door.Unfortunately the instructions given aren’t clear on this either. But eventually I figured out it was the dividing panel underneath the seat belt and was able to get it all to work.Overall great product

Overall, it's pretty easy to install. Just take your time working through the instructions and you'll get there. Needed few tools. For me that was a 10mm socket wrench, 1 hex key, wire tie clippers and a knife. Some things you might want to know if you have a 2005 Tacoma, crew cab, 4x4 (or eq.). Feeding the short wires (to power the lock) through your tailgate drain holes probably won't work. Didn't for me. I had to strip the plastic coating off the leads to be able to do that (still a tight fit). Next, don't try to run the wires down the driver side to the cab. Way too many obstructions. Use the passenger side....much, much easier. My wiring of choice was, at the tailgate: blue -> blue; and green -> green. At the cab, it was blue -> blue and green -> blue w/ pink stripe. Worked the first time around. Overall, I wasn't in a rush, so I could work through things slowly, step by step. Works fine and I like that it has a separate key (I didn't see the need to spend an extra $50-$100 for the model that'll work with your OEM ignition key).

Works really well. The directions were a little difficult to understand but I got it figured out. Works great.
