I like toys that allow kids to explore and be curious and this one does just that. It is fun for them to check out what their toys look like up close. It also is great for exploring plants and bugs outside. The only downside is the screen can be harder to see in bright sunlight, so you have to provide some makeshift shade or stick to the more shadowy areas. You do need to pretty much have the plastic touch whatever you are looking at and get as close as possible to get a sharp image. This means some things are not really able to be magnified well. Overall though, I still like it a lot as it is interesting for kids but also a tool for some learning.

This handheld digital microscope with a 240X zoom and a 2-inch screen makes a perfect educational gift for young explorers, allowing them to discover the wonders of the microscopic world.

We gave this to my 10yo for her birthday. She has LOVED using it so much, and her three older sisters keep borrowing it to look at things too. It was a great car toy, which I didn't expect. On a recent road trip, she and her sisters kept taking pictures of things around them in the car and trying to make each other guess what the picture was. It's small enough and lightweight enough for her to take with her everywhere, but big enough and bright enough that it won't get lost. She loves the cat aspect, of course, and as soon as it warms up here a bit more, she's going to spend lots of time outside with it watching nature. That's a win for me! The battery seems to be holding up very well to her usage so far!

This is a fun little microscope camera that is amazingly powerful. It does a great job magnifying a variety of things! I looked at different aspects of US money to get an idea of the power. For such a simple device, it does really well. I have a sampling of images to see exactly what the "The Kid Digital Microscope" can do. I took a couple of photos of a measuring tape-- the lines shown are 1 mm. The 4x zoom really brings it in.When I loaded the HiView software for PC and connected the Kid Digital Microscope I was really surprised. The detail available on the large computer screen was incredible. It is packaged as a fun kid's magnifying glass, but is actually a very respectable microscope! For the price it is almost a steal!Updated: This microscope can be used to view and even take pictures, or as a live microscope on the PC with photos, but there is no way to download any pictures taken with the handheld device-- that causes me to take away one star. Surely it would be easy to implement a mode that allowed USB-C access to the microscope as a storage device.

This thing is pretty awesome! My toddler dropped it a couple of times and it survived. Kids had so much fun with it. We almost stepped on in it in the pouch so now we carry it and store in a old school lunch pail box so we can store it, collect leaves, rocks and a dead bug here and there (Yay for fearless kiddos)The pricing is about average to a little lower in the market. The design is adorable! Only a few things that stood out that would make me reconsider this item. I included a couple of photos as well. I wish the base (clear tube) was longer. It really limited on what we could use it for. Even small rocks were a challenge due to it hitting the lens. The buttons aren't marked just part of the "paw" the manual has what they do. Maybe I can tape it to the inside of box. It may not seem big but the menu has a photo of a real (not cartoon) little girl dressed up doll-like. I wish it didn't have it. Literally when you turn on or off. Makes it feel more marketed towards little girls and slightly uncomfortable. Does this kids parents know? I don't know, maybe it's just me. I feel like it can do without the games, no need to run the battery down for a tiny screen game. The screen brightness isn't so great outside it's doable but with some angles or shade. So maybe go on walks and collect your items, then bring back home to look with microscope. Also, I second the reviewer who said don't look at your skin with this. lol. I did cuticles and nails and that was a big mistake. Unless you are trying to stop biting your nails. Look at them and be forever haunted. All in all it's not too bad for toddlers ( they will figure out the buttons soon) the price is about right compared to others. The pictures are good and my toddler can hold it easily and have fun with it exploring.I'm torn between stars. Maybe 3.5? :)
