Get what you pay for... says 60 amp controller.. instructions say maximum is 21 amps solar before cutting off. WHY?????????? Also max voltage is suspect at 160.. Cuts off at 130 to 140. Specs are ALL A LIE. Find something better.

This is a very nice modern flooded lead acid battery management system. The solar market has changed how lead acid batteries are maintained. This is a smart charge controller that prevents capacity loss with desulfation, does bulk charging and equalizes the cells. My recreational vehicle batteries are a bit of work to maintain over the winter having to swap around one modern charger. I once tried a cheap float charger and it cooked a battery dry over the winter. The good float chargers cost more than the battery itself. No one wants to buy a new battery every season. When setting up a solar charger for the bilge pump on an open dinghy, I realized that the charge controller didn't care where the energy came from. It also won't bleed power when the input was removed. Enter an old wall wart from my junk box, a plug in timer, and now I have a modern battery maintainer for under $20. The timer keeps the wall wart from running up the electric bill, and the charge controller keeps my boat and motorcycle batteries in top shape. By using SAE 2 pole connectors, I can disconnect and ride with zero hassles.

I bought a 20 watt portable solar charger that came with a cheap and poorly made charge controller that ruined a $200.00 100 amp hour AGM battery. With the old controller the battery would only charge to 11 volt which is a completely dead battery. I replaced it with this controller. This controller shows how many amps the battery is holding and the charge level of the battery. I was about to recycle the old battery but decided to to try this charger on the ruined battery. After 3 days of full sun the battery is now showing and holding 14 volts. This was money well spent.

Seems to work properly as to charging battery and turning on the load but the timer for load time on is WAY off... not even close. Otherwise seems ok. But won't know for sure about battery charging and discharging until I get a current sensor working on that leg.

I am using this charge controller for a solar powered driveway gate application with a 50W pv panel.Needed a bit more charging capacity as I am also running LED entrance lights over night.Have had this installed for a little over a week, and so far so good. This controller seems to working well and is able to get the battery up to float voltage without issue. I am also using the load output to power the entrance lights, which can be set for dusk to dawn or on at dusk and off after a prescribed time.Only gave the charger 4 stars as the LCD screen on it is very directional. Your view angle must be from slightly above to get a clear view. Unfortunately due to mounting limitations in my controller box, I am only able to view from slightly below the controller and it is very hard to read. However, this is only important for configuration and periodically checking operation.Data sheet/manual was a bit hard to read, but manageable.

The controller seems to work robustly as advertised, but the screws to secure the wire contacts are countersunk and ensconced in narrow plastic holes. You will find it irritating that most screw drivers are not narrow enough to fit in the holes, and the ones that can fit in the holes will not be compatible with the screws. It is like they designed to be hard to work on. I tried about 7-8 screw drivers to find one that would work. If you do have right screw driver beware, the screws themselves are made of a very soft compound susceptible to stripping. My recommendation to the manufacturer is to improve the hardware; the electronics seem fine, and the features are good (backlit screen, easy to navigate menus etc.).
