Your cart is empty.Lag screw bolts are used in place of standard wood screws whenever the mounting surface must bear a heavy load. The hex head allows for lag screws to be tightened with more torque than can be used on Phillips head screws, though a pilot hole is still required prior to installation. Note that lag screws do not accept nuts as they are technically thick heavy duty wood screws with threads designed to cut into wood. They are ideal for use on decks since installation can be accomplished without having access to both ends of the fastener, as opposed to standard hex bolts that require a nut on the opposite end.

The head snapped off on 3 out of a hundred. I was bolting brackets on 2x4’s

I used several of those lag screws on the rails for our fence, which I'm renewing w/new rails and cedar pickets. Before I was buying the screws fm/ HD, but price here is way better. I drilled the pilot holes w/drill bit 3/16", but very short, like about 1/8", just to start, then I found recommendation 5/32", I'll use that drill bit for the pilot hole in the future. The screws are galvanized, so they won't rust. High quality product for a very good price.

Screws are as advertised. I used them for attaching a wooden fence to metal post. No problems.

The "Prime-Line 9054985 Hex Lag Screws, 1/4 in. X 1-1/2 in., A307 Grade A Hot Dip Galvanized Steel, 100-Pack" are good heavy duty screws with a good coating but they were obviously size without taking the thickness of the zinc into account which makes the slightly too big for your sockets.

They work but are not very strong screws. I twisted the heads off several of them without much effort....not for heavy duty work.
