It's a spring. A good, quality spring. It springs as advertised.

My dog chewed up the web leader on my extension leash, so I got this (and a new leash) to stop that. It is a bit heavy-duty for a 12lb dog, but works fine.

Both attic stairs in my over 25 year home have been sagging. I was unable to identify the manufacturer of my stairs. With the attic closed, the springs were loose and rusty. They measured between 11 and 11 1/2" when closed. The springs when removed were not all the same length. I did purchase some longer ring eye bolt hooks to make up for this difference. These were easy to swap with the old hooks when the original spring was removed.Installation keys. One end of the spring needs to be partially straightened so it can pass into the opening on the end of the stairs.I used a board to hold up the attic stairs when closed so it would not lower when the old spring was removed. I used a ratchet strap to stretch the new spring so I could engage the hook.

I got it to replace the spring on a kids toy. Unfortunately the spring is too stiff. Quality is ok and seems good for what its intended.
