I'm am happy with them for shooting in environments where their noise reduction is sufficient (outdoor, common handgun calibers or rifles that are not real loud). For indoor shooting or for using around open pistols or really loud rifles they are NOT adequate, you can double plug to get around that or buy the thicker version of this muff with the higher noise reduction rating.

Shipping was terribly slow, but once I received them, Pro Ears came through as I expected. This is my third set of Pro Ears and, as a firearms instructor, I depend on excellent sound suppression with enhanced amplification in order to get my job done. Pro Ears delivers on both.I love the leather ear cups. They are way more comfortable than plastic, and they’re great for extended wear.

My last pair was purchased in 2011 (that's right 11 years ago). The amplfication featured failed on one side which defaulted to suppresed sound only and company no longer made the 'old' sound boards. I believe I got my money's worth and could have kept wearing them as a noise cancellation set of muffs except as an occasional range safety officer I wanted to hear what was going on at all times. Great value since the new model allows you to connect to your cell phone or MP3 player.

I try to purchase US made stuff as much as I can, but this one is not worth it. Make quality is way lower than I expected for that price range: foam flaps covering electronics and battery?? What if I fell or got hit by something in the head - the batteries and small circuit parts will fly right into my ear! Intermittent creaking sound in the right cap. Looks like ProEars didn't bother about electromagnetic screening of the circuitry. The only upside is that they sit pretty comfortably on my head. So the other $20 passive earmuffs do. Shouldn't be price higher than $50. Returning.

Great hearing protection. Use weekly on the range for practice and competitive shooting. Important that they are comfortable and that I can hear the range commands and instructions to ensure safety. Batteries size is not commonly found but available on Amazon for a good price. Highly recommended. Several other shooters have tried them and are switching to Pro Ears.

I have the $60 Howard Leights. I was looking for some high-end ear muffs, with a slimmer fit. Decided to spring for these Pro Ears. Serious mistake.Put them on, and they are comfortable. Turn them on, and say "test test testing one two three". You can hear yourself, but you also hear a crackling distorted sound. Listing to the wind, trees, and TV are fine. But when you talk, it's terrible.Figured they were broken, sent them to Pro Ears for repair. They replaced both boards. Same issue. Apparently this is expected behavior. Now I'm outside my return window and stuck with an expensive set of ear muffs I'll probably never use.I gave them 2 stars because they are comfortable, and if you don't ever talk they are fine.

As a 32 year LEO veteran, lifetime hunter and sport shooter, I have experienced many thousands of rounds exploding. For approximately 20 years I have used a pair of Pro Ears Demension-1 electronic hearing protection, I have replaced the cup seals several times and other than that, I rate them 5-Stars Plus "Best I have ever seen". Now as for the "Predator Gold" set rated 3-Stars here. I have recently taken up long range precision rifle shooting and needed ear protection with less bulk, therefore, I ordered the Low Profile Predator Gold, They do not fit as well as the old ones, they do not offer the noise protection of the old ones and the amplification of lower decibel sounds such as range officer commands, they is simply no comparison to the 20(+-) year old Demension-1 set. For shotgun and lower caliber rifle or surpressed rifle shooting, the Predator Golds are adicuate (I am keeping mine). However, for use with high caliber, un-surpressed weapons, especially being fired from under a range shed, I would order the Pro Ears with the full size ear cups.

I attended a 4-day defensive handgun course at Front Sight in Nevada last month. They require electronic ears. I have used Pelton, Howard Leight and other passive hearing protection that worked fine for many years. When you are on a range with 40 other shooters, it's pretty important to be able to hear the range master's instructions from 10 meters or more away.It has always been the COST of electric ears that have kept me away. I had no choice at Front Sight though, so I took the plunge. Overall, I have to say these were a great investment. You can talk at a normal conversational voice level with your range partners. When a gun goes 'bang' the sound is limited to 85 decibels. The bang is still certainly audible, but I experienced no pain or ringing in my ears even after 4-days of shooting. The reason I only gave the product 4 stars is that intermittently, there would be a buzzing in the earpieces. This usually happened when I had my rain hood over them, but in other cases the headset was not covered. I found that if I slightly increased the volume, the issue disappeared.I would also have preferred a passive noise reduction rating of 30db.I have already recommended these to all my friends. I have not observed any noticeable drain on the batteries after four 9-hour shooting sessions. This is the only brand of electronic shooting protection I have used, so I have only the remarkable difference between my old passive cans to compare them against. The Pro Ears are vastly superior.
