  • Designed to work with braided or monofilament fishing lines

A great release is more important than the downrigger itself !
Try my improved Pro Release II, you will love them, guaranteed!

The Pro Release II was designed to release smoothly and predictably at any tension setting using a unique "pinched bobbin" design.
A few wraps of the line around the bobbin, pressing against the rubber wheel provide rod loading tension
Thumbnut adjusts release tension from less than 0 all the way to 20 pounds of pull.
It's unique design is perfect for braided or monofilament line.

The Pro Release II has the following key features:

  • Proven design from 1977, was very popular, but disappeared after 9/11. I started this biz to bring the best back for you.
  • Best product at the best value for what you get, one release does it all.
  • Eliminates false releases through precise rod loading / release tension adjustment
  • No tools required
  • Complete and ready to fish and stack out of the package
  • Simple loading. Lay the line on the bobbin and wrap 3-4 times for rod loading
  • Set tension thumbnut once and it releases predictably every time.
  • You know when it's going to release, unlike pinch pad releases
  • You don't have to spin a loop, like with pinched wire releases
  • Precisely adjustable from 0 - 20 lbs !
  • Not inline from boom to weight. 3' leash transmits action and makes it easy to retrieve and load without bringing the ball out of the water
  • Use with all kinds and sizes of fishing line, especially braided fishing line
  • Use for all kinds and sizes of fish. You don't need a tiny release for tiny fish
  • No line fraying or burning due to twisting, sliding, rubbing or pinching
  • Several colors for visibility and fish attraction
  • High quality corrosion resistant Brass, Stainless Steel, and solid Plastic components
  • Made in the USA

I ordered 2 of these because these are the best downrigger clip on the market, when they arrived only one of them had the trolling clip

I've been having problems with my Scotty clips releasing as I'm tensioning. This won't happen with this design since you're tensioning in a different direction than the release operation. But training people to load this right adds complication to an already complicated job. 1) You have to have the nut down, 2) you have to start "inside" the channel, and 3) make sure you're winding from the top and not the flasher. Failing to do so will cause the line to peel from the inside instead of the outside which will hang up and not release. But even when done correctly, trying to manually release the flasher can cause that same hang up because now you're again pulling from the inside to the outside and you cause the exact same problem. I had a fish which didn't pop the release and by the time I got the ball up and manually got it unwrapped off the post the fish was gone. Scotty downrigger releases never have that problem. It's a tradeoff. I wouldn't use it unless my scotty downrigger release is mysteriously not holding.

Awesome releases. Very adjustable from kokanee to salmon. Love that they come with longer tethers so I don’t have to replace it right out of the package!

Forget all other releases. This is the only one to use. I have used this release salmon fishing for 20 plus years. Close-pin style downrigger releases either pop off easily or don't release the line for anything under eight pounds. With Pro Release there is a little release toggle that you control to set the pull pressure. I no longer have a boat but when I go with a friend, I bring my own release. This is the only one to have

These are great. I've used for many years in Puget Sound for salmon until I finally lost my last one. Tried various other brands but missed these, so I'm glad they are available again. The big benefit is they don't trip when tensioned from above. So they won't pop while you set your rod tension, or if your line picks up the weeds and junk prevalent after tide changes. But if a fish grabs your lure the bail will pop open and release the line. Like others pointed out, read the directions to make sure you set them correctly or they may not work right. Shipped by Priority Mail so they got here a day before estimated time.
