If you are a beginner
At the very beginning, please don't follow the first two steps of the operation steps to insert the file directly, and then press the handle for punching.
- Step 1: You can familiarize yourself with the paper fixer slider and the side margin adjusters. NOTE: The paper fixer slider cannot be positioned beyond the white reference line scale on the panel. Margin refers to how far the top of the first hole is from the top edge of the paper; the wider the margin, the deeper the hole is punched.
- Step 2: You can place the file to the right of the paper fixer slider, close to the slider. Be careful please do not cover the reference line and the number of holes on the control panel.
- Step 3: If you are inserting a letterhead, the control panel will correspond to 42 holes. You can lightly adjust the slider and the position of the paper from side to side to make sure that the range of these 42 holes is in the middle of the paper.
- Step 4: Keeping the slider in place, all you need to do next is push the document inside the machine and press the handle to finish punching.
- Step 5: After finishing punching the holes. You can manually turn the coil into the hole 3-4 laps before turning on the switch so that the machine can do automatic binding.

This is convenient but it doesn’t provide information on how to make the pages all bind properly. I had to “wing it.” The punch itself only punches 12 sheets maximum. It did take some time for me to figure out where to set the start at. I’ve never used one of these but thought it would help make homeschool more fun. It functions well, as the holes were not needing help to fall out. The bottom sticks fairly well but did lift a bit when I pushed down to make sure the holes went all the way through. The auto bind did speed up the process a lot though when it worked. I think it’s a decent value.

Seemed like it would be nice, but after punching through the cardboard it came with to clean it, it started making an awfully loud popping sound whenever the tines came back up. And if you tried to do the max number of papers it would sometimes tip over on its side when pushing down on the lever. I really wanted to like this. But it cost too much to look past those glaring errors so am sending back.

I ordered the red Stainless Steel02 variation of the Nolan 46-hole spiral coil binding machine. I have been wanting one for a while to bind a bunch of my piano books and was excited to try this out! The instructions it comes with are very minimal & not very helpful, but I was able to figure it out ok:* The lever on the back bottom left can be adjusted to change how far in or out it will punch the binding holes.* It fits standard 8 1/2” x 11” paper sizes perfectly; the holes pictured on the machine where you put the paper in match the holes it will punch, so that is helpful to be able to line your paper up where you want it before sliding it in to be punched* Getting the coil to automatically thread through the punched holes is a bit tricky, but I was able to get it to go. I do wish I could slow down how fast it threads through, but there is only 1 speed and it’s pretty fast (NO instructions on how to do that, and NO video on the listing)* The crimping tool that is included is high quality, but there are no instructions on how to properly crimp the coil. I had to look up how to do that on YouTube* I love that this comes with 100 spiral binding coils, but they are all the same size (5/16”); that size did work well for my first binding project so I am happy about thatOverall this is a great basic binding machine. It won’t punch more than about 12 pages of standard thickness paper at a time, so if you need to do more and bind them all together it will have to be done in multiple steps. There is a paper guide you can adjust to be where you need it; just set it and you’ll have the holes punched in the same place every time.I am happy with my order. 4 stars!

1. This is for A4-sized paper and won't work (well) for US letter-sized. I tried. If you line it up jussssssst right you can do it, but the top and bottom holes are at the very edge of the paper — not ideal.2. It has virtually no instructions — see the photo. If you've used something similar you might know what to do, but I haven't so it was very frustrating.2a. There are no instructions for the included crimping tool, either. Trial and error sort of gave me decent results, but there's clearly a way you're supposed to use it.3. The little guide you use to set the paper height? It's very easy to have it at a slight angle and thus have your holes at a slight angle, too. This is a minor complaint, but it adds to the overall frustration.Why 2 stars? Because it does punch nice holes (in A4 paper) and it feels well made. But it's only worth it if you're outside the US and already know how to use it.

This binding machine is great if you're looking for a way to make your own books, reports, or guides. It can handle letter-sized paper but might take some extra care lining it up. It's not perfect on that front. The build quality is solid, and once you get the hang of it, it punches clean holes and inserts the coil efficiently. Be prepared to look up a few things online because the instructions are pretty lacking. The included crimping tool works well once you figure it out. For the price, it’s a solid machine, especially if you don’t need to bind large stacks in one go.
