I have 3 older sets and hated to buy another, but with stronger valve springs I was struggling to pull them safely. My old split-jaw set was having trouble holding the retainers, a little scary. Glad i bought this. This thing is solid. If you get it set up to the right angle for the lever, pretty easy to collapse and hold. I saw some complaints about how hard the leverage is. If it's that hard, you don't have it set up correctly. When just making contact with the valve and spring retainer, the arm should already be past vertical about 20+ degrees for the correct leverage.

The whole Amazon process was just as expected and has been good every time since. I gave this four stars and would have given 5 if the bolt wasn't missing from the "hinged" shiny portion of the valve spring compressor in the last picture. Not a big deal and not the fault of AmazonUpdate, (Same day, only a few hours after the product was delivered):I contacted Proform customer service dpeartment via Amazon. I got a reply shortly after. After a short exchange and pics sent, Booth at Proform and I agreed to a satisfactory solution. Proform was very concerned and has notified their quality department. I will still recommend their products.

I originally bought this tool to do a valve job on a hemi 5.7 engine. I ended up returning it because you couldn't compress the valve without the spring head catching the side of the head. After some thought I re purchased this tool and made an adapter out of 3/4 black pipe (grinding out the sides to insert the keepers) which fit under the spring compression head which gave the clearance to compress the springs. I packed Duck seal around the pipe which held the pipe in position in the spring holder head.If the manufacturer supplied a couple of adapters to do what I make this would be a perfect tool for any engine.I worked perfectly. This is a very solid tool for spring compression.

I had springs that I needed to install so I went to a local auto parts store and used their rental tool cylinder head valve spring removal/install tool. Guys it would not even move the springs and the tool even popped off and cut my finger. So I just decided to bit the bullet and buy this tool so I could get things moving. What a game changer. I had the springs off and new springs back on in no time. It was well worth the money in time savings and a hold lot less painful. I recommend this tool with no reservations. It will get the job done.

This tool works great. It is sturdy, easy to adjust and easy to use. The handle is plenty long to provide good leverage and it sort of locks in the compressed position, however I wouldn't trust it to stay compressed without some additional pressure on the handle by the user. One thing to be careful with, when you initially apply force to the handle to start the spring compression, there will be some resistance to get the spring cap off the retainers, so it will be a sudden release when the release occurs. It is advisable to tap each valve stem with a hammer to help loosen the retainers from the cap before using the compressor. I used this on double springs at about 400 lbs., it did did a great job.

It looked robust so I ordered it to replace my tired Lisle compressor. Unfortunately it is made from that buttery soft mystery metal that a lot of Asian made tools are made from. The actual frame bent the first time i used it. I was installing some 150 lb seat/300 lb open springs on a sbf head. The handle and compress mechanism seems to be robust and fairly well made. The frame is too soft!

Purchased this to change valve springs on some BBC heads. The spring compressor works great except the handle does not "lock" in the compressed position very well. You can tell that the cam mechanism is trying to "lock" in the compressed position, and I have achieved it to stay put once or twice. More often than not, the spring compressor does not lock at all (leaving you with only 1 hand to work with the valve locks) or the lever arm will stay put only temporarily - causing the valve springs to be released very quickly without notice. This has happened to me 3 times now and so far I have been lucky that I have not had my fingers in a position that would cause them to be pinched...Additionally, the blue powder coating is not very durable. After the second valve spring, there were blue flakes of paint on the valve spring keepers. These flakes are obviously not a helpful addition to the internal components of your engine... Make sure to clean all paint flakes before re-installing your heads on the motor.Otherwise, if this spring compressor locked in the compressed position as it should, I would change my rating to 5 stars. Will probably try to exchange my particular tool to see if I received a faulty unit (hey - it happens), or if it is a design flaw. I will update this review accordingly with what I find.
