These will cut pretty large (nearly an inch) branches and you just grip it, grip it again, and grip it again to close down on it and cut it easily. I use it all the time!

I bought these because my other ones keeping locking without me wanting them to lock. These don't do that, but once you unlock them, it's hard to lock them back (1 star). Over all, not bad for $9, if you don't care about locking them (4 stars). They are sharp and comfortable (5 stars). Although the ratchet part seems flimsy (and it's the same part as the locking mechanism, which you really have to squeeze hard to lock and will soon wear out I'm afraid, weirdly). They definitely don't lock on their own, that's for sure! UPDATE- OK, once I’ve used them for several weeks the lock loosened up and they are now easier to lock. I would now revise My overall rating 5 stars. :-). I also bought another pair lol.

Product looks and feels solid. The locking mechanism for the shears is why I only give it three stars. It is really hard to unlock. It could just be that my specific pair is sticky or not functioning correctly but I cannot open the shears with one hand. I have to use both hands and really push that sliding lock up.The weird thing is that it is fairly easy to lock agin.More importantly, the cutting ability is decent. Not great but not terrible. The springs are pretty strong so it can be a work out for the hand if you are trimming a lot of things. It works ok but I think if they broke I would spend a little more to get a pair with a smoother motion (open to close). So far the shears themselves are holding up well and do what they are supposed to, just not very comfortably. They work for pruning my roses and other small yard plants but wouldn’t work for anything much larger than a rose stem. They do the job but you do get what you pay for.

I love these clippers! I have arthritis and these clippers cut through wood sticks small branches cut almost like cutting through butter! Seriously these are the greatest clippers ever. If one hand starts hurting i can use the other hand! The double feature , reg. Clippers/ shears also with ratchet anvil feature are a life (hand) saver! Wish I had bought these years ago!! love pruning my roses, and plants! trimming branches! Excellent product! Cleans easily. Just wipe off!Because of arthritis Its easier for me to use the ratchet feature! Just a slide of a button it switches from reg. Shears to ratchet. To use ratchet feature just need to squeeze handles together 3 or 4 times which slowly cut thicker branches! Great clippers/shears for SENIORS and People with Arthritis! I plan on buying more of these as gifts for family and friends! The price is very good! Especially for those seniors on set income! I will try to get photo or video of me using these! Having heat wave right now in so. Ca.

Bought this for my mom whose hands are now aged. She will be using it for general garden pruning. Though for it's first use, we ended up cutting a tree-branches into smaller pieces to fit it in our green waste can. The ratchet function has a tendency to cut 1" round size branches. If you have less than 1 inch branches, my mom recommended to use the tip of this clippers, and if it's 1" thick then use the rear end of the clippers. The tree branches when cut were many and huge, but my photo only shows the end of the process. The photo shows a long saw blade that is part of the 14 ft tree pruner separate from the ratchet pruner. My mom is pleased and so am I. Your mileage may vary!
