The bottom of the envelope stays flat - so while the side does open to 2 inches, the bottom does not expand fully, so it defeats the purpose - and the paper quality is poor, so I already ripped one trying to fit my paperwork in it. At $1.35 per envelope, it's a waste. I don't recommend these - the name of the company is "Quality" Park - yeah, that's a misnomer!

Expandable for thicker files, good quality and heavy enough not to tear open at sides ir ends, seals well. Same brand as sold in the stationery store but half the cost
