All 16 engage effortlessly, and the finish is smooth as silk. I used these to replace the S-hooks on my ratchet straps that hold down my Harleys during transport. They will not of course become "unhooked" if my trailer takes a bump, and the smooth finish will not wear away my straps. As is so often the case with Amazon, I would have paid more in gas to visit the hardware store.
