This was a decent gift just way smaller than I expected.

This is a 3-inch drum. I was thinking it was a 6-inch drum. So it was very small, and I was embarrassed to give it as a gift.

It's for my patio and it's winter here now so I haven't been able to put it out in the rain.

Unfortunately, I was very unimpressed with this drum… It’s very small, quiet, and frankly underwhelming. I was expecting it to be a bit larger than it is, as right now it’s reminiscent of a kids xylophone toy. The tones are very similar, and the small size makes it difficult to play. I haven’t found a good spot to try to leave it when it rains yet as it’s been fairly dry for a while, but when it does I’ll be sure to set it in its rightful place outside to add some ambiance with the rainfall!

I'm not a musician by any means, but I wanted to see what sound this little steel drum would make. The sound is pleasing to the ear and not difficult to hit the spots that make the sound. It's tiny and would be great to bring along on a trip for sing a longs or to go with someone playing another instrument. Fits in the palm of my hand but works better if it's sitting on something. Only comes with one drum stick, but that's really all you need, easy enough to use a pencil too if you wanted a second. Overall, I like it.

I was a bit disappointed when I pulled this out of the box and set to making "music" (the quotes are due to my inability to play already composed songs). The drum sounded out of key to me at first. After some trial and error, I discovered that the notes sounded better when struck in specific places. Using a different mallet with a smaller rubber tip provided me more precision and produced better sounding notes.I purchased this to keep on my desk at work for emergency calming sessions when I was away from my larger drums. It looks nice on the desk and I give it a daily wipe to keep it dust-free. It works for my purpose, but does take a bit of practice to find the note sweet spot.

Thus sounds sooo beautiful and can be played even when it’s not raining. I know what’s going in Christmas stockings this year!
