I bought these to replace aftermarket struts on an unknown 6" lift kit on my 2006 FX4, They use an OEM coil spring (not supplied). I also bought Eastwood external automotive coil spring compressor to swap out coil springs. The whole process was simple and installation on the truck was not very difficult. I did buy a pair of Rough Country 2.5" strut extensions to level out the truck. The Shocks themselves are adjustable for ride quality and after a few trips down the road I found the correct setting that gave the best ride. A simple twist of the knob provides the adjustment control. I spent many hours at service centers and even a shop that specialized in 4WD lifted vehicles only to turned away because the lift on my truck was a unique, discontinued, or off brand and none of them wanted to take the time find replacements.
