I had the same item that lasted me for many years, I had to finally replace it after more than 15 yrs. The new product is terrible. looks the same, but did not hold up for more than couple reels. Does not grip the line well and the sharpener tries to fly off. I would return it but it has been too long since purchased it. Bought in September and used it briefly before hunting season took over. Seems no one makes a quality line stripper anymore

It works great for a little while, until the line gets caught inside and you have to cut it out. The mechanisms that help move the line along also get dull pretty quickly and makes the tool useless since there’s too much of a gap.

The screw for the battery compartment is so small that you will need an extra small screwdriver.I am sure whoever thought this out would not be able to find a smaller screw!

I have used the older model of the Rapala line stripper for years. The line rollers were getting worse in their ability to pull the line from the reel, so I decided to try the new version.First the Likes: The motor seems more powerful, the line removal is faster, and the rollers actually engage the line reliably.Dislikes: The small cylindrical grinding wheel (for hook sharpening) simply fell off on the first attempt to use it. I think a drop of super glue did the trick. The package advises that the device uses 4 AA cells, but gives no clue about how to access the battery compartment. A #1 or #0 Phillips screwdriver is required to remove a tiny (easily lost) screw on one side of the handle, which pulls off to reveal the battery slot.Overall, this is an improvement over the very dated old design, but it is physically larger, and serviceability does not seem to be well thought out.

I ordered this at the end of September with the intention of using it to help speed up the process of respooling all of my ice fishing rods. It took the line of off the first 2 rods and on the third the sharpening stone flew off followed by one of the wheels used to remove the line. Not impressed in the least.
