We had an old Sony DVD player and a new Sony Smart TV. This device merged the two different connections between the devices effortlessly.Picture quality and sound is perfect - only took minutes to install. We did use a USB power adapter (not included) but you could connect the power cable directly to the TV if you have an open port.

It works. I stupidly didn't think it worked at first because I didn't notice it needs a usb power cord plugged. All good now

It's good, but it was not suitable for my old VHS recordings.Pros:- It's as described from my basic testing, although I've only tested with NTSC vintage VHS tapes.- The blacks don't seem all that crushed to me, but I set the Color Range in OBS to "Full", (Camlink HDMi capture device). Convesely, using the default "Limited" color range does crush the blacks, so becareful there.- Picture quality looks fine. I included a screen grab from a home video, taken from a budget VCR.- It's USB-C powered, which is the main reason I decided to give it a chance.Cons:- I have to unplug and replug the HDMI capture device a bit to get it to sometimes pick up the right signal settings- it's stretched my 4:3 source into 16:9- it looks like it crops the top/bottom a tiny bit, but the sides look ok- It draws an annoying NTSC/SV/AV message over the video output, which hides after a few seconds, but I don't want that at all.- But the real issue is that it can't handle my vintage VHS recordings - 90% of the time it loses the signal, cuts to blue, and I'm left with nothing. My tapes are pretty shoddy, but my other VHS capture device will not cut out, rather it will just give me a distorted image, which I'd prefer. Conclusion? For the price, I can't complain, and if you have higher quality recordings or cleaner sources, you might be quite happy. Picture quality itself seems pretty decent, and it does what it is advertised to do, but I've failed to get thru even a minute of VHS tape without it cutting out.I'm giving it 4/5 stars; there's just too many cons.

This box is worth every penny!!! And it doesn't cost many pennies to begin with!I couldn't have gotten any lazier with my setup of this box and it worked right away! Here's what I did:1. Removed converter box and the included USB-A to USB-C power cable from the package.2. Plugged the USB-C into the converter box and the USB-A into a port on our Nintendo Switch dock to supply power to the converter.3. Plugged my A/V cable from an old X-Box 360 into the converter box and an HDMI from the converter box into the Aux input on the front of my surround receiver.4. Powered on my system and switched to the correct inputs. There was picture and sound from the X-Box 360 with no sparkles, lines, blurriness, video noise, or any other anomalies that you might expect to see with an inexpensive converter box.See my photos for images of the 1080p mode through my 1080p projector, and 720p mode on my ancient 768p plasma TV. Both are connected via an Onkyo Surround receiver with dual HDMI outputs. The converter box was connected to the front Aux input on the Onkyo. In the past, I have often seen converter boxes have trouble connecting through a surround receiver to a display due to poor implementation of EDID. There were no such issues with this converter. Just plug & play, the way it should be!I've been looking at converter boxes like these for a long time to get old things like a VCR or other devices hooked up to my home theatre system. Most of them were $50. or more and didn't make me feel it was worth it for the number of times it will get used. With this converter, I may actually purchase extra, just in case I want to hook up multiple legacy items to my system, or in case one breaks down in the future. At this price, it's hard to go wrong when it's so easy to set up and use! A highly recommended device!FYI, it comes with a 1 year warranty and lifetime technical support. A search online for this type of converter brought up a similar device from a BB store that was on sale at $32.99 from $54.99. The BB model also used the old mini USB port on the converter box instead of the modern USB-C that this converter has. This is literally a steal of a deal! If you have an old piece of A/V equipment that you want to hook up to your current TV or system, this is the converter to buy!

It works pretty much as expected, but one thing about it that disappointed me was that it stretches out the image to fit widescreen tvs without an option to then that off or set it to 4:3 instead of 16:9 aspect ratio. I verified that it wasn't an issue with my TV or it's settings either, so it's just a limitation of this device. That being said it works pretty well if you don't care about that part of it. The only other nitpick I'd have is that the cords that it comes with are very short and it doesn't come with a power brick/plug to plug in with, you'll have to use one of your own to power it.
