How a catalytic converter work

Catalytic converter disassembly
Basically, a catalytic converter consists of a oxygen sensor plug, a honeycomb substrate, a steel wire mesh mat, stainless steel shells and flage plate. The catalyst is composed of a substrate, rare earth elements, and precious metals (palladium, platinum,rhodium).
The material of the inner lining pad is typically an expansion mat or steel wire mesh pad, serving the purpose of sealing, insulating, and securing the substrate to prevent damage caused by vibration, thermal deformation, and other factors.
T409 stainless steel sheets to prevent oxidation and the resulting shedding of material, which could lead to blockage of the substrate.
Ultra-high hole positioning perforation technology, leads the oxygen sensor to sending more precise electrical signal to the electrical control unit, so as to more accurately control the automobile injector nozzle fuel injection, which achieve the purpose of reducing fuel cost.

Owning a 2003 Honda Element you know that its just a matter of time before they steal your catalytic converter. Mine was stolen last year and my mechanic was nice enough to just run a straight pipe connector for a replacement and tied up the O2 sensor. The O2 sensor has never worked right and threw an error warning that would not clear.I picked this up as we plan to sell the Element but as old as it is I don't want to pay full OEM price as the new catalytic converter probably costs more than the car is worth. I dropped my car off Thursday and had my car back Saturday afternoon. My mechanic reports that everything fit with some simple modifications and my O2 sensor is now cleared from the dashboard. At this price, I don't expect it to work as an OEM catalytic converter would as you are missing a lot of the rare metals that the original has. At this price, I just need it to work well enough to clear my engine codes.I don't have any state inspections where I live so I have no way to test if it would pass or fail tests that other states have. Overall this is a great way to get your car back into shape in the event of a catalytic converter theft at a fraction of the price.

The inner material of my OEM catalytic converter broke loose and was rattling inside of my catalytic converter at low RPM’s. This was a perfect replacement. This catalytic converter came with only 1 doughnut gasket for the manifold side. I replaced the Resonator less than a year ago and replaced the doughnut gasket between the resonator and catalytic so I was able to reuse this gasket. It came with all new bolts so I didn’t have to reuse the old bolts.
