I have an aging Craftsman roto-tiller whose pull starter is losing its spring rewind tension. The owner's manual lists the replacement as 497680, so ordered this part to keep on hand. I have not yet replaced the starter because it involves drilling out the original rivets and replacing them with nuts and bolts or pop rivets. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."Comparing this new starter with the old one, it appears to be a perfect replacement. The rivet holes line up exactly, and the two nylon dogs that pop out to turn the flywheel appear to operate as they should. The starter is well-made, with the housing stamped from .060" (16 gauge) steel and the cord appears to be woven nylon. The spool is some kind of plastic, probably ABS.I have two suggestions for changes in the copy for the description:First, it says (twice) that the cord is "ultra-durable manila fiber," which is an oxymoron.3mm manila fiber wouldn't hold up for a dozen pulls, and it rots and mildews. This cord is much better!I believe this cord is correctly described as "ultra-durable braided nylon." 3mm braided nylon has a breaking strength over 560 pounds.Second, the photo in the copy looks to me like the housing might be made from plastic, but it's not.It might be good to mention that the housing is made from 16-gauge steel.

Tried entering my mowers info on the web, and was brought to this piece. Wasn't sure if it was right, but purchased it knowing if it didn't I could easily return it and try again. Good news for me, it mounted and I popped the rivets in. Mower works again! Success!

troy-bilt sold me the wrong part, this one is a direct replacement, but you need to un-rivet the existing part and rivet this one in. TB-211 lawnmower

This fit perfectly on my old Murray lawn mower when the recoil spring lost its catch. Unfortunately, I had the riveted on kind, so had to drill it out, but was perfect match for this one.Two reasons for the dropped star:- no moutning hardware included (You might not need if you are replacing one with hardware, but I prefer to use new if i can anyway)- the internal catch arms are plastic not metal like the one it's replacing. Hope it will last.... but it not, will be easier to replace in the future since I just bolted it on with some M4 bolts.
