BEFORE INSTALLING them. Test your pads when they arrive by connecting them to a fully charged Car battery in series with an Amp meter and in series with a switch. Insulate all connections. Then vary the pad temperature. At room temperature over 68°F, the current should be zero.At any temperature under 40°F, the current will be between 3.0 and 4.0 amps.Cycle pad temperature hot cold several times.Check with pad temperature infrared thermometer Not your hand.Testing with an ohm meter will not give accurate results. These are easy to use and those persons who do not find it easy to wire should seek the aid of aprofessional electrical mechanic. This is a good product but it has poor quality control. Asians will ship anything. I run 12 of these to defrost the roof of my Ford Transit van at 24 volts or about 100 watts each. Thats 1200 watts total. Have a 3500 Watt/hr battery bank. I can defrost the roof and roof rack with 4 inches of snow in about an hour with cabin house heat on. I insulated the outside of the pads with 1" fiberglass.I have a bank of small Digital amp meters mounted on my wall for each pad, to see what each pad is actually doing.Hope this helps someone.

Pads do not heat up, regardless of temperature outside. Woke up today to my freshwater tank frozen at only -5C despite having 2 pads installed on it. Called the customer service and they explicitly said because it was purchased on Amazon Canada I get NO customer service. I will try to return the items to get a replacement but fully expecting to not get it because items will be destroyed to remove.

First one died after 3 weeks of use. Second one is developing hot and cold spots so I'll die soon. Was hoping to at least get one winter out of them. Not the case.

I put two pads on my RV fresh water tank and one on an external tank I use to transport water. The external tank had a 30 gallon block of ice in it when I applied the pad, and in two days there was a massive hole right over the pad that melted nearly to the surface, so the pad worked. I used a blow dryer to warm the pad up before I applied it and it stuck very well, even though it was single digit temps outside. Temps hit -24 F the other night and no problem, my RV fresh water tank did not even get slushy. The pads consistently use about 3.5 amps at 13V while operating and they do turn off, once things warm up enough. And now that I have skirted my trailer, the pads keep the space underneath at about 30 F, even when outside temps go below zero.
