From the Manufacturer

Red Head Large Diameter Tapcon 3/8 X 4 Inch Anchor is a high performance anchor that cuts its own threads into concrete. The anchor bodies are made of hardened carbon steel and zinc plated, Grade 5. The anchors have a finished hex washer head with anti-rotation serrations to prevent anchor back-out, and the head of the anchor is stamped with a length identification code for easy inspection. The anchors should be installed with carbide tipped hammer drill bits made in accordance to ANSI B212.15-1994. Use standard ANSI bits instead of proprietary bits, which will reduce the chances for anchor failure due to incorrect bit usage, and will cut costs. The Large Diameter anchors install in less than half the time of wedge anchors or adhesive anchors, by simply drilling a pilot hole and drive the LDT anchor by hand or impact. They remove easily, no torching or grinding required to remove anchors. The Red Head anchors have a single piece design, no nut and washer to assemble, and more threads for better thread engagement and higher pullout resistance. The Large Diameter Tapcon anchors have closer edge/spacing distance than mechanical anchors, and higher loads in shallow embedments. Specs: Anchor Diameter - 3/8 inch; Socket Size - 9/16; Drill Bit Diameter - 5/16 inch; Effective Length - 4 inch; Max. Thickness of Material to be Fastened - 2-1/2-Inch inch.

If you look up the spec sheets, these 3/8" tap con anchors have a higher strength rating than 1/2" wedge anchors. That is a no brainer for me! No drilling 1/2" holes in the concrete, and no drilling 1/2" holes in the steel plates! I believe they use a 5/16" masonry bit in the concrete. I especially like the fact that they can be installed and removed multiple times. With the project I am using them for, I had some misfiguring as well as changes to how I wanted things laid out that led to needing to remove some of the plates I had already anchored. This was super easy, and all I need to do is fill the old hole with epoxy, and reuse the anchor!

I needed these for a project, and when I got the box it was opened and there were only 29 of the 50 anchors inside. I had to use a few of them when I got them, so cannot return. Very disappointed

These work the best of several types of concrete fasteners I have been trying lately so I can recommend them to others. They have large diameters compared to the size hole that needs to be drilled to screw them into place so that is a big plus. They screw in easily and get a good "bite" to secure their position. The smaller holes required helps speed up their use compared to the expanding end type of fastener AND they stay where you set them unlike the expanding end type.

I used these to attach a gazebo through deck boards into concrete footing. Only finished a couple weeks ago. Already have had some Santa Ana winds and the gazebo doesn't move at all. The bolts felt very sturdy. They took a bit of torque to screw them down with a foot long socket wrench. But that made them fell very strong.

I used these to bolt down pallet rack at work. I should have bought an inch shorter. They work, but this size is too big do the Tapcon technique. You would need an extra long drill bit to go deep rough to open up the space and get the dust out in a horizontal application. I ended up having several that I could not get to drive all the way. If you were going horizontal, you might not have to fight the dust staying in the hole as much.
