This product is wonderful! My chicks love it, as evidenced by the silence when they are under it! 19 chicks, some 6 days old, some 2 days old, seem to have plenty of room. I also bought the cone top and feathers and they both do what they are made for. Side note... I emailed RentACoop because when I added the little ones yesterday no one would stay under heater plate, and inhad to go back to heat lamp. RentACoop answered back today and told me what to try and how to handle situation and now ALL my babies are back under the heater plate with very soft peeps every now and again! Great small business company and will definitely be buying from them for all my chicken needs!!

This product works well in warm weather but the chicks need a backup if it’s a little chilly. I still used a heat lamp while the chicks were small.

I was skeptical of getting a heat light for my brooder instead due to fire risk. I got this as it has a very low chance of fire hazards and has a max heat that it will not go over. It is supposed to resemble a mother hen sitting on her chicks, our chicks love it! It has four adjustable legs for bigger and smaller chicks. We have four chicks that are bigger and six smaller chicks and we have been able to adjust it to their size as they grow. I love the top as it does not allow the chicks to sit on top and poop all over it.I have absolutely loved this in our brooder and would highly recommend!

This was perfect. I love that it comes the cone on top. It keeps the chicks off of it. I love the ability to adjust each leg seperately it helps when you have smaller chicks and slightly larger chicks. I will never use a heat lamp again and have to worry of it will catch something on fire.

This brooder plate could not be easier. Right out of the box was easy to assemble and adjust for my chicks. Got to temperature quick. Love the pyramid cap that doesn't let the chicks get on top. Received from the seller as requested.

While pricier than the traditional heat lamp there is much more peace of mind when using this.I had to return the 1st one as the LED light wasn’t lighting up when plugged in. I had the replacement next day. Would be nice if Amazon would start taking returns on replacement items to save us a trip to the UPS store.I have the plastic pyramid that sits on top. It is effective in keeping the chicks of the warmer but it also covers the red LED light. Could drill a hole in it to make the LED visible. You gotta have the visible confirmation that the unit is powered on. Suggestion to seller, add a clear pop in piece of clear plastic to make the LED visible with the pyramid in place. The Northern California 2022-2023 winter was longer and colder than normal so I actually had to use the heat lamp for a couple weeks since the warming plate isn’t sufficient for temps lower than 65 degrees.Would buy again.

We really like this chick brooder heater from RentACoop. Last year, we used a 250 watt heat lamp and we always had to worry about what would happen if that bulb tipped, overheated or burned out. This heater is amazingly efficient and the energy savings is huge. Compared to the 250 watt heat lamp which used 6 kilowatts in one day, this heater uses less than 9% as much energy at 22 watts which is just over 1/2 kilowatts per day. The chicks are very comfortable under there and we are very happy with the safety and the energy savings. Also, at just three days old, some of the chicks are already trying to jump up on top of the heater so the anti-roost cone was worth the investment. Our mixed chicks were hatched over two days and the first (regular size) is already bigger than the last hatched (bantam) so it’s a nice feature that we can adjust the legs to different heights.

Currently brooding our 2nd round of chicks under the 12x12" heating plate. We love the reduced fire risk and the fact that it doesn't heat the room. There's been no noticeable increase in our power bill for the months we've been running it.Setup is as easy as sticking the legs in and plugging it in. No jury-rigging a lamp rig. The legs are a breeze to adjust as the chicks grow. Some weeks, I adjust them daily, leaving one side lower than the other for different sized chicks.Besides the ease and peace of mind, it seems like chicks benefit greatly from having a place to sneak under like they would their mom. Our first chicks are in the coop now, are super sociable, and never had aggression issues even when an exceptionally cold, wet, windy spring prevented us from moving them to the coop as soon as we planned.I purchased the cone top. It works great, but we only use it the first week to keep tiny chicks from hurting themselves when they hop off the top. In a week, when they have wing feathers and can hop more gracefully, I swap the cone top for a cardboard template that's easy to switch out after they poop on it. The top is warm, so chicks love using the top as a roost.3 considerations:- Like many chicken things, size up from what the manufacturer suggests. Our 7 chicks outgrew the 12x12" plate in a month. By then, some luckily preferred sleeping on top of it anyway. Probably cut the manufacturer's recommendation in half.- Beware if your brooder's in a room with a temp in the 50s or less. If you aren't brooding them in the house, it'd be good to heat the space to the 60s for the first few weeks so the chicks don't chill when they run out to eat/drink/exercise, which they do a lot.- Because this isn't a lamp, I leave a dim light on (just enough to read a newspaper by) so chicks can find food & water at night, especially the first week, when it could be dire if they get lost in the dark and can't find the heater again (chicks often eat and drink at night, esp. during growth spurts). This thing has made raising chicks a lot less stressful, and RentACoop has done a good job with the adjustable legs and easy setup in particular.
