People try every kind of lube to reduce friction between their cables and housing -- if they think of it. Grease, wet lubes, dry lubes, whatever is lying around. The concept is fine; lube should be applied to any metal that moves, just that if the lube is too thick it will be sticky and will increase friction. The right lube will both decrease friction, improve performance, and add life to cables and housing. Rock n' Roll Cablemagic is the only purpose-built cable lube we know of. Used properly, the Cablemagic will increase time between service intervals, saving you time and effort and keeping cables and housing performing well past the time you'd normally replace them. Put some between your thumb and forefinger at the end, slide it on taking care to avoid having the ferrule at the beginning of the housing wipe it off. The excess will be wiped off by the ferrule at the end of the housing. Another method is to drip a few drops into cable housing before inserting cables. One bottle is 2oz. and should do 10-15 bikes. For use with non-coated cables only.

This stuff is amazing. You can honestly feel the shifting is smoother and easier at the lever -- that is, right after applying. Let's see how long that lasts but it really slicked up the cables in housing right away. I'm sold!

I used this when I did mountain bike rack support. This alone solved ghost shifting for so many rider. Seems to be mostly silicone and PTFE, no harsh solvent smells and no reaction if I apply with my fingers. 5-10 drops is enough for each cable and housing set. I even use it on slick cables.

I rebuilt two bikes over the past month One rebuild was for a friend. The other rebuild was for a family member. On both bicycles, the rim brakes were hard to apply and the shifting was sluggish. The cables and housings looked okay. I lubed all the cables with Cable Magic. The bike felt new again! To lube the cables doesn't take a lot of Cable Magic. A small bottle goes a long way.

Works good. I think dripping it in cable housing then feeding wire through is best way to use apply it.

This stuff is gold. I started using this about 15 years ago and it works amazing. The best this to do is add it to new cables. This will help shifting, and maintain great shifting.

This works at least as well as top-end cables and housings with special coatings. I had a build that required tandem length cables with full length housings, which meant lots of friction and no fancy cables. A few drops of CableMagic spread over the whole cable between my fingers and this is my best shifting bike. It did not interfere with the clamps on the derailleurs. From now on, I will be using bulk housing and cables with a coating of cable magic.

Strangely I've not used this but once on cables worked great. Where I found a great use for it was on my suspension fork. Was on a ride and my for started to squeak. I had this little bottle in my pack, so I figured why not. A little tiny dab right around the fork seals and instant relief. Since then I've tried it again and it worked. So not only is this stuff good for cables, it'll fix a squeaky suspension fork too.

This stuff is the bomb. I don't see the point in ordering really expensive stainless or Teflon cables when I have a 2 oz. bottle of Cable Magic. This makes your braking and shifting feel so free and slippery (if you apply it correctly).According to the instructions, you can drop a little inside some new housing or a light coating on a new cable itself. I usually drip three drops per foot (about) of housing or one or two if it's under a foot. In addition, I use protective ferrules, umbrellas, and external liners to protect my cables from the elements and prolong the operation and lubrication of the shift or brake system. This is absolutely needed by all cyclists. I highly recommend this innovative product.
