They clip on easily and stay where you clamp them. I bought a 3-pack of another well known brand recommended by my instructor - they started to fall apart and the velcro did not hold. These are far superior

Helps mute and kill extraneous noise when playing high-gain tones. It gets the job done and is well-made and tough.

Works as intended. My son is happy with this item. The extra guitar picks are an added value. He says it works much better than a hairband. Great for any guitar player in your life. I recommend.

This Rockhouse String Muter is well made. The material seems to be durable and the dampener pad that goes against the strings is like a soft cotton pillow. I put this on my bass and found that it did a great job of muting the open strings, which works well to dampen unwanted string noise and also to give a nice soft feel to open notes. It's super easy to use, just wrap it around the neck somewhere in the first fret (adjust to taste) and attach the velcro to keep it in place. It has a bit of stretch to it so you can easily push it back and forth over the nut if you don't want it on all the time. It also fits a standard guitar if that is more your thing. The selection of picks was a nice bonus for when guitar players come to jam.I think these are a good product and the price is great compared to some name brand options.

Been playing guitar as a secondary instrument for decades now and i consider myself a novice. This came in a pair with a couple of picks.Looks sturdy and durable for its intended purpose. Strap is made of cotton with a plastic buckle and velcro to keep this wrapped around the guitar neck. The mute itself is soft. Not foam. More like cotton.String muters make learning easier and makes you play better by killing overtones and harmonics, making you hear clearly the notes and how you play them. Anything played after the fingered string also produces sound before the string all the way to the neck. By using the muter, you get cleared notes.Another is when you want to play with muted strings. Instead of using your palm, this serves as such.Overall, something any guitarist should have in the bag.

I wasn't sure if it was just me or what but this seemed to work best when I had this placed just above the nut, when I tried using it anywhere else I couldn't get it to work without having it too tight around the strings where it wouldn't let a few strings play out. I never had anything like this so I'm sure I'll figure it out.It also came with a bunch of guitar picks which was cool.Decent made product that will be very helpful as it's been a while since I picked up my guitar.

I remember when the first string-muting product came on the market back in the early 90’s. It was immediately embraced by virtuosos like Jennifer Batten, and I was always curious if such a thing could help my own playing. I’m thankful that I’ve had the opportunity to test this Rockhouse product, and I’m pretty impressed at the range of applications these have for any stringed instrument. They’re a far cry from the homemade life-hack gizmos I tried to cobble together over the years. These are nicely made, with a convenient Velcro closure that seals securely and can easily adjust to fit most guitar necks. They come in a variety of colours, and I chose the orange ones because I figured they would be a lot harder to misplace (I’m good at losing things).I've been very happy with the performance so far. They’re easy to use; just secure one around the neck at the desired tension, and you’re ready to go. When you want to play open notes or chords, just slide it back behind the nut. When you want those notes muted, simply slide it forward and you can shred or tap to your heart’s content without the unwanted noise. It may take a little experimenting to find the right tension for you, but it’s all a matter of taste. Fastening it tighter means it will dampen the strings more completely. Setting it looser means the strings will ring out a bit more.I used them both on my guitars and bass, and was very impressed. They free you to do more intricate patterns, especially when tapping, without having to worry about the rattle, bang, and clunk of the strings you’re not touching. They’re particularly useful for people who use a lot of gain because, even when not in use, they’re still in contact with the strings behind the nut preventing them from ringing out. They’re also great for acoustic artists. They worked especially well on my bass, and I loved the deadened thump I could get on the open E and A strings. It reminded me of the old school tones from players like James Jamerson and Carol Kaye. Those basses had actual string muters built in, and I’d always wanted to try one but never had the chance. I immediately wondered if I could use this muter to duplicate that sound on my 5-string. It took some fiddling, but I was pleased at how well it worked (see photos). The outside strings ended up being almost completely muted, but the E, A, and D all had that thumping 60’s sound. As great as they are, I do have a genuine concern about using them. One of the most important techniques you can learn as a guitarist or bassist is controlling the strings you're not using. I grew up instinctively learning to mute the strings I wasn’t playing by using my free fingers, and that’s a very important part of musicianship. I worry that younger players who use muters like these may not learn those lessons. Still, they’re a very useful tool to have in your trick bag.At $16.99, these are priced very attractively, offering two muters at roughly the same price as just one of the name brand. It never hurts to shop around a little, but I’ve had a lot of fun with these and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them. They're a quality product that's a perfect stocking stuffer for the guitarist or bassist in your family. My rating: 4.5 stars
