THEY'RE BIG. If that's a problem for you, DO NOT consider these. They're like one of those smaller dorm room fridges, and nearly as heavy!!Granted, they are cheap for what they are. 3-way monitors, and plenty volume, with adjustable treble and bass. For this size, I'd have expected them to knock my living room wall over! Nope. About as loud as the APM8w's by the same maker! Yeah! Maybe a little clearer and fuller. Otherwise, the Rockville APM8W will be just fine.

At very low volumes these are OK speakers (not studio quality), but when you start to push the amps a little everything goes bad. I can hear a lot of distortion at the crossover points & there is some sort of limiter on the woofer circuit that makes it crackle every time a bass note is hit. They may be ok for any other music besides HipHop/R&B/EDM or any other genre with sub bass. These are nowhere near the build quality or sound quality of the KRKs. I've owned & used both. But..... for a little over $400 a pair... what more could you expect.

These work great as studio monitors or as I am currently using them as a PA System.

Loud as ever as I desired, but the item was very poorly packaged. Being that its about 50 lbs and a speaker at that it should've been covered in foam and bubble wrap. I'm guessing these 2 dents on the sides are fom it being roughly handled or maybe even dropped. There is a static when plugged in but the sound is pretty good. Very loud, rich and full of bass as I desired. If there could be a better shipping method it would've been a perfect experience. I'm really hoping that this hiss I hear isnt from it being dropped. The fact that it was shipped in its own box made me very upset, horrible idea. One because there wasnt enough protection and 2 because Its never good for soneone else to know what a package may be. Guys please get it together, I really like the speaker but I didnt deserve the condition it came in.I'll update you guys in a week.

This speaker is incredible for the price, with quality, depth and volume unmatched by even big passive PA's. I'm the CTO and a road sound engineer for Eventeks at Eventeks dot com. The description calls this a Studio Monitor, and the outstanding setup instructions from Rockville show a 38% of room depth listener placement with two of these at 60 degrees each (and an optional sub between on the floor, we use the Polk active for that). This is correct but MISLEADING because a pair of these speakers also work IN OUTSTANDING FASHION for gigs too! You've been there: the three bears, too big, too small, just right. Should you go all out with a rack full of amplifiers and a supercomputer to figure out the impedances for your passive setup, or just say heck with it and bring two of these with a sub? The answer is, depends on the gig, but we've found that these work GREAT for rooms of 200 people and less, such as weddings, parties, corporate meetings, etc. Yes, what I am saying is that these will beat the pants off most similar size PA systems you can get for the price, including using the XLR for mic work and 1/4 for the mixer (/3.5 mm to rca for PC) etc., for outstanding music reproduction. We use inputs from a Yamaha 32 and have used these in 3, 4, 5 and even 7 way configurations, including with their look-alike KRKs as passive sides.Rockville won't want to hear that they are a great alternative to their own BIG passive PA's, which they are in sound/price ratio, but not really a competitor because at 200 RMS you'd want one of their bigger, passive units for large venues over 200 people, but two of these with a Polk active sub between recently performed wonderfully for a 190 person venue in a 10,000 foot convention center room. We put the mixer outputs into a Behringer crossover (speaker management system) then output left and right with a dedicated subwoofer output. Unlike many other actives which only come with RCA for wiring, these are truly professional grade, and offer XLR, RCA AND 1/4 inputs (balanced and unbalanced!). I do wish they would have an aux out, but the mixer and/or crossover-splitter can take care of that. (YES you can even use those evil and sometimes impedance-dangerous Y connectors with these, because this is active and won't require a PhD in math to safeguard your impedances with a separate amp split). BTW these DO have internal crossovers and separate amps internally but we use the external crossover not for protection, but to manage phase and room acoustics.Of course they would also offer an incredible alternative as a home or studio system, but realize we're talking over 40 pounds each. The packaging also was strong top and bottom, but weak on the sides so be careful to check the box in case the carrier got overenthusiastic with a forklift. To save even more money, call the Amazon Harmony folks for a discount which usually amounts to covering the tax. Rockville ads say that this is unique on the market, and that isn't just hype, finding an active for pros today is really hard because there is so much Bluetooth junk out there when you get up to 10 inches. You simply won't believe the sound at this price point, highly recommended.NOTE TO EMAILER: YES, this only comes as ONE speaker in the $200 range each, but note that these are NOT "bookshelf" speakers when you are doing comparisons at 10 inches and 50 pounds EACH! These are a whole different category, and yes they are priced to compete with "computer speakers" or home theatre systems but are equally applicable for DJ's, eventers, parties, etc. They really fill a unique niche you won't find at retailers, consumer audio stores, etc.
