Product Description

LINEA PRESSURE WOUND 45 65 85 105

From the Manufacturer

The original pressure wound stainless steel bass string designed in the mid-1970s. Similar to our Swing Bass 66 strings but with a smoother feel. Due to rolling, mass is retained and therefore its brightness. Our half wound Solo Bass 55 strings eliminate finger noise, reduce fret wear, work well on fretless basses and excel in the studio.

I’ve used Rotosound for 45 years as the best in the industry for bass strings. Prices vary so look around before purchasing. Strings are getting expensive but you will get the best quality from any of these in my opinion.

It seems that there are many different terms for what I know as ‘semi-flat’ wound strings. D’Addario call them ‘half rounds’! I have heard them called ‘tape-wound’ - quite a good description; ‘ground wound’; & the genre used by the top string specialist and therefore, the term that I prefer, ‘semi-flat’! So when you type in ‘semi-flat’ bass strings and you get Rotosound’s ‘Pressure Wound’ as your only option, what is one supposed to do?Under the magnifying glass: (with the red tortoise-shell p’guard in the background) is the ‘Pressure wound’. Although it’s very tight & microscopic, it is very definitely ‘round wound’. Brand new, they are very bright and particularly abrasive to the skin and to the fingerboard of my fretless bass. Whereas the picture containing my finger & thumb, shows the ‘semi-flat’ in all of its’ glory… and grubby state - gimme a break, they’ve only been in place for seven years! As for the quality, To my ear & opinion, they are excessively bright; too bright for a maple fretless board certainly. Higher pitched than the tops of say, the usual stainless steel eclectic quality of Elixirs. They will no doubt, dullen with age & you could obviously dial-out the amp or bass, but not at the expense of my fretless’ fingerboard. They are probably very good strings but they are certainly not semi-flat & are not for the fretless application.

My bass improved a lot in the quality of its sound with this set of strings, the brightness, the life, and the sound of these strings are incredible, simply awesome.

Nice and relatively bright strings, some of the brightness of rounds with some of the mellowness of flats. My fretless still “mwahs” plenty with these on, however these strings wear a fretless board much less than roundwound (even on a hard fretboard).

Out of the packet these strings look great, I really like the green silk ends. The tone is bright with a good bass response. The initial brightness began to ease off after a few hours of playing but there was still plenty of top and bottom to the tone. They lack the mid-range warmth of Nickel wound strings but have a tone that I found useful for more aggressive styles of bass - they sounded great with a bit of overdrive. I chose these because I was looking for a smooth string with round brightness, however there are smoother 'coated' strings out there which probably last longer. Rotosound say these strings reduce fret wear, which is a good thing and I like the 45-105 gauge. I personally didn't like the feel of these strings, but I can't knock the Rotosound quality and sound.

These are great sounding strings - super bright. Not as "smooth" feeling as I was expecting, but they certainly do not tear the flesh off your fingers quite the way 'normal' stainless roundwounds tend to do. Played though an EMG MMTW, they have HUGE booming tones in the double coil mode, and yet they exhibit a very pleasant 'light and hollow' twang in the single coil mode. This set is a perfect fit on my 35 inch scale Warmoth Gecko bass ( bridge is not string-through... )

I got these on a whim once to try something new and I just fell in love. With the treble cranked and a heavy touch, they can sound like rounds, but dial back the tone and use a lighter touch and you can almost get that flatwound thud. They have a perfect blend of sound and are really the most versatile strings I've tried, having used them in everything from metal to jazz to indie. If you really like that zing of a fresh set of rounds out the utterly dead boom of flats, you may want to steer clear. But for anyone in between, I'd highly recommend checking these out.

Great strings! I recently tried these for the first time and did a show in a loud stage environment using a concert sound system and these really came through with great sound with just a bit of the treble naturally rolled off. Never played a string quite like these. Now it's all I will use. A little morre expensive than some, but well worth it.I've been using Elixers on another bass and I'm done with those. I have ordered 3 sets in the last month for different basses and I am so happy I did on each and every one of them.

I bought these strings looking for less string noise, but these strings are rougher and make more noise than the Fender nickel-plated roundwounds I was using. I'll have to try the 66s to see what the difference is. However, these 55s make my Geddy Lee jazz bass sound like Geddy Lee's tone, which was the point behind having this bass. The Fender strings were nice, but had a warmer and more mellow tone, which was great for some things but not why I bought this bass.

I generally play with the Rotosound 66 (stainless steel round wound) and had a brief fiasco with fender stainless steel round wounds, and found these at a good price (and the gage I like). They are smoother then both the Rotosound 66's and equivalent fenders, but not as smooth as flat wounds. The tone is slightly less bright and more mellow then their round wound counterparts, which I like. You can get a lot of diverse by playing with EQ and tone adjustments on your equipment. They are easier on the fingers and frets then the stainless steal round wounds and have a similar tone, which I why I wanted to try them in the first place. I am not disappointed!
