About this item

  • STAINLESS STEEL 5 STRING 35 55 70 90 120

Product Description

Inspired by the penetrating tone of legends such as John Entwistle and Chris Squire, players worldwide have strung up their bass guitars with Swing Bass 66 strings. The distinctive sound of our roundwound Swing Bass 66 strings have been used by the bass-world’s biggest hitters such as Jaco Pastorius, Geddy Lee, Billy Sheehan, Noel Redding, Duff McKagan, and John Paul Jones. The bright red silk ends are hard to miss!

From the Manufacturer

This is the roundwound string that James How and John Entwistle perfected into what was to become the industry standard. The bright, punchy, high-energy sound of Swing Bass 66 strings is a major part of early rock music history and brought the bass player from the back line to the front of the stage.

E, A, D, G strings sound spectacular, but the B string is too small of a Guage to produce any tone hardly compared the the other strings so I supplement a single D'Adario super bright, heavier Guage string for the B.

Classics that lives up to their legendary sound. Perfect on my Fender jazz bass - why would I second guess Geddy??? Minor ding, but to be expected, coarse feel adds to finder noise.

What more is there to say? These strings are consistently good sounding and now available at lower prices... If you like punchy, growly, consistent strings look no further. I got this set for my 4 string bass set up in drop B... tension is good, B sounds great. Thanks, Entwistle and Roto...

Great light gauge strings, love the bright sound, didn't need to touch the bridge or any other setup as there was no buzz at all (strings being removed were heavier and stiffer.) Low "B" still feels light.

I have long used and loved Rotosound strings. After some forays into other brands of strings based on other people's usage and local availability I am back and couldn't be happier. What drove my current return to Rotosound was the availability of this light gauge five string set and particularly the 120 gauge low B.I currently play a Rickenbacker 4003 and have been experimenting more and more with various levels of detuning. About a year ago I realised that what I really wanted was a five string without the fifth string. I didn't wan to permanently enlarge the slots in the nut so I started looking for a five string set with a reasonably sized B string and the RS665LB set fit the bill. I ordered it along with a couple of other sets from other manufacturers but when I heard that Rotosound bright but solid sound again I wondered why I had every strayed. The bottom four strings from this set fit on my four string Rick with only the slightest bit of gentle filing needed.Although the low B is a lighter gauge than some other sets it still registers a very deep and solid tonality. I also find that although Rotosounds don't sound bright forever they decay in a very well-behaved manner. My current set are about nine months old. They don't shimmer like a new set but they are far from sounding dead.Highly recommended.

I have always liked Rotos but this set gives me the sound that I was looking for, specially if you wants to play some rock with this beautiful "clap" sound from your pick like Duff McKagan's sound on the intro of "You could be mine" or Steve Harris or Dave Ellefson sound like for example, or if you are into a classy smooth jazz. Obviously if you equalized properly you can also have a fat sound for other types of music. Rotos are very well known for their quality and this set rocks the house!
